The basilica of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice

In this video I describe the history, architecture and art of this magnificent baroque church, a landmark of the city of Venice. Constructed in the 17th century on the orders of the Venetian Senate to give thanks for the city surviving the plage of 1630, the building is the masterpiece of architect Baldassare Longhena, who beat a host of competitors to win the most important building commission of the century in Venice.
