I LOVED this ride, and it was absolutely insane at night!!

I bet you couldn’t see what was coming, making it seem faster and more intense!

@CoasterConnections it was completely black, and being the first suspended coaster i had ever ridden, it was definitely freaky but in a good way!!

This was the first big coaster I was tall enough to ride. Proctor and Gamble day 1981. Rode this first thing that morning. I was 7. I can still hear the clank of the lift hill and feel the moisture in the chilly air as it had rained overnight. Memories. 👍

Thank you so much for sharing this, it’s great to hear everyone’s experience on The Bat.. I’ve always been fascinated by the story of this coaster and must admit I’m a little bit jealous of anybody who got to ride!

My first few visits to KI the Bat was still there but unfortunately not operational. There were no cell phones with park apps for wait times back then ... So I witnessed a trend of people who would run up to the queue at The Beast yelling "The Bat is open! The Bat is open!" Then the Beast's queue would clear out and the people yelling "The Bat is open!" would casually get in line. Never since have I seen another example of line jumping by way of mass deception 😂

What a way to get a shorter wait for The Beast! I would probably be one of those people who believed them and ran over to The Bat! 😂

What a great coaster to have ridden! I'm too young to have ever had the chance to ride, but I've always been fascinated by The Bat and its story.

Yes it was. Got to ride it on a trip with my baseball team back in the day.

Fun fact: The Bat was originally planned to have corkscrews where the two helixes were.
@CoasterConnections2 ай бұрын
And what a crazy ride that would have been! I’m kind of glad they stepped away from it early in the process!

I rode the original many times. Loved it. I like the newer one, but it’s short. Too bad they didn’t remake that front piece on the cars.
@CoasterConnectionsАй бұрын
I like the new one too, but wish I had got a chance to ride the original. Those cars were an amazing design too!

Have you ridden the new Bat? I am 56, live near KI but never got to ride the original Bat. I think the train cars on the original Bat swung much more wildly than the new Bat but maybe that's just my imagination.

@@roberttore3442 I think about the same.

I hope you loved the new Bat. Now watch my video for the story of the original.

I never realized that KI announced the permanent closure after BBW and XLR8 had opened. I guess KI was simply sick of all the problems that they just wanted a traditional rollercoaster. I have to question if it would have been more cost effective to rebuild the track and supply new trains vs construct a completely new rollercoaster.
@CoasterConnections2 ай бұрын
I know, it’s crazy how close the timelines are. Looking at interviews it’s clear how increasingly frustrated Kings Island had got with The Bat and couldn’t wait to get rid of it! It would probably have been more cost effective, but it’s also easier to market a brand new coaster rather than fix one you already have thrown millions at.

Rode it one time........ That BANG WAS AN ATTENTION getter thru that one corner.

The original Bat was demolished in 1984. The one you rode is a different roller coaster that was renamed. This is all explained in the video 😁

Failed? My family loved this ride

I know it was a great experience to ride, but I don’t think King Island saw it as a success when they had to demolish it so soon!

Should have kept vortex and took this trash down
@ThePirateprincess232 ай бұрын
Wrong version of The Bat. Vortex stood where the original Bat once flew.
@CoasterConnections2 ай бұрын
As @ThePirateprincess23 has said Vortex replaced the original Bat. It seems a lot of people get confused by this though!
