Infant mortality in this context basically means early failures an analogy to the death of infants in their early birth!. .these are the failures experienced before the product is released

Its an analogy. Because the bathtub curve resembles that of human life,, infant mortality, useful life- where we can expect random failures and finally old age (wear out)
