If The Batman 2004 had a prequel movie what would its soundtrack be? This is my attempt to answer that question based on music ques from the show.
The Batman 2004 starts with the Caped Crusader in the 3rd year of crime fighting. By this time he has all but eliminated the existing criminal element in Gotham, however, a new type of villain emerges - super-villains like the Joker. If The Batman 2004 had a prequel, it would focus on year 1-3, the Batman's origin and war against organised crime including the Falcone and Maroni families.
00:00 Death of the Family
The minutes, the hours, the days, the weeks and the years since his parents death do nothing to affect the grief of the young Bruce Wayne. A theme for innocence lost and an inexorable pain.
00:55 Finding the Batcave
Resolute in his goal and returned from his travels, Bruce Wayne abseils into the cave under Wayne Manor to discover a large space, perfect for his designs and teeming with bats. Also the theme for building the cave setup, once complete he gets the first alert on the Batwave, notifying him that there's work to be done.
01:43 The Birth of The Batman
Suiting up for the first time mirroring the scene in Mask of the Phantasm. Alfred watches on as the troubled young man becomes the instrument of vengeance and justice.
02:39 First night / Stakeout / Crooks at the docks
Batman stakes out a nefarious mob operation at the Gotham dockyards, criminals are offloading contraband. He silently takes down several. The criminals' fear rises as they stare into the shadows.
03:42 Stepping from the Shadows
Mirroring the opening scene in Matt Reeves' The Batman 2022, the Batman steps from the shadows menacingly, the criminals are frightened by his vampiric presence.
04:06 First Fight / Vengeance / 2004 Main Theme Reprise
2004 main theme reprise but darker and less refined. Batman is not the great detective in this instance but a fighter, finally able to begin his war on crime.
05:05 Playing Card / Joker Origin
Teaser for the Joker to tie in to the first episode of the show.
I have created a slideshow of up-scaled and photo-manipulated images from the show which loosely fit the narrative described above. It's very difficult to find relevant images but I hope the result at least stimulates the imagination.
