I know because I am speaking from experience, I was extremely depressed and suicidal throughout all of middle school and my first year of high school, but then when I started my second year I had a teacher who I had started having meaningful conversations with every morning before school and through those conversations I was slowly able to realize what I needed to do to start getting my life back on track and it gave me something to look forward to every morning. Charlie Collins is one of my favourite one-off characters in any TV show, let alone Batman TAS. He's an ordinary man with ordinary real-life problems, an ordinary family life, and an ordinary job. Nothing about him is OUT of the ordinary. And yet, Charlie accomplished something Batman never could due to the nature of Joker and Batman's conflict - he utterly destroyed the Joker. In the span of just two minutes he incapacitated the Joker with a single punch, threatened him with a humiliating death, made the Joker beg for his life/for Batman's help, fooled both the Joker AND Batman with his fake bomb threat in order for the Joker to give up all the details on Charlie and his family, made Batman laugh, and escaped the entire situation totally unscathed. In making the Joker terrified for his life, he did what Batman never could. And in making Batman laugh, he did what the Joker never could. To accomplish even one of these many feats is extraordinary, but to accomplish them all in one go makes Charlie an absolute legend.

I wish they would circle back to this kind of characterization of the Joker. I get really annoyed with how he's being portrayed lately as this unstoppable force of nature that no one but Batman can understand. Charlie has the Joker pegged completely here. He's not some grand agent of chaos, he's not the unflappable Clown Prince of Crime. He's just some nobody lunatic with nothing else in his life but Batman. Everything he does is just some attempt to make himself infamous because in every one of his backstories he was a nobody, going nowhere. His worst fear seems to be becoming that nobody again. It's telling that two of the most memorable times in the DCAU where the Joker completely lost his cool are when guys like Charlie Collins and Terry Mcginnis looked at him straight without any fear, laughed in his face, and called him pathetic.

The one thing Joker hates more than Batman. Anonymity. That is actually the fatal flaw of alot of Batman's rogue's gallery. They want to do something bad and be SEEN doing it. Charlie Collins did two amazing things. Joker is almost afraid of nothing, not even Batman. And he actually put fear into Joker. And then he made Batman laugh. Something only a handful of people have ever done.

Batman doesn’t usually laugh but in this case he’s willing to make an exception

Thing is that the Joker is afraid of an average civilian, because he knows if he's actually cornered by an average person, who has full knowledge of his crimes, and with a combat situation not in his favor... he'd be dead. Any one of us would see him dead in real life if he really existed.

1:50 that “Gotcha” definitely got the Joker going in fear, probably Scarecrow could double that with the fear toxin.

"This is how it ends, Joker... No big schemes, no grand fight to the finish with the Dark Knight! Tomorrow, all the papers will say is that the great Joker was found _blown to bits_ in an alley! Alongside a 'miserable little nobody'... Hahah, it's kinda funny. _Ironic,_ really! See, I can destroy a man's dreams _too!_ And that's really the only dream you've got, _isn't it?!"_ Ha! Charlie's got Joker to a tee!

So a "random nobody" just made The Joker wet himself and call for Batman... Legendary. (I haven't seen this episode so I have no context beyond this clip)

Fun Fact the only time the Joker got psyche out was by Charlier Collins and Terry McGinnis.

Hahaha Joker screaming for Batman is pretty wholesome in this.
