This episode freaked me out as a kid. The way the zombies were designed made me so scared especially considering they seemed to be intelligent. The part where he tries to "cure" Robin and Batgirl especially stuck with me. I never saw the ending of the episode when I was young so it stuck in my head as to what happened to all the characters.

Same for me but with the vs. Dracula film. Seeing the citizens being attacked by vampires, the vampire Joker attacking that blood bank, the presure of knowing if Bruce doesn't do something fast, all Gotham will be a vampire nest... that scene with a citizen hearing a little girl cryin in the middle of the street at dusk, only to see it was a trap and she was a vampire? Literal chills from thinking about that movie

honestly while it does feel like a scarecrow plot, i think the bat embargo forcing them to use someone else did a lot to aid this episode! Like you said, Scarecrow would of given the twist away the moment they revealed it was Scarecrow to begin with! So using Hugo Strange actually lets the twist be well, a twist! : D

They weren't allowed to use certain characters in the series in case people was to get confused over which version they are, like for example Robin weren't introduced into the series until Teen titans was over. Scarecrow wasn't allowed to be used for this same reason because this came out around the time of Batman Begins. Also another character weren't in this show, Two Face but what they did instead was have Clayface as a surrogate for him. Same similar thing is even happening now with modern DC in multimedia unless their explicitly elseworld stuff, everything from next year's Superman movie is gonna be in the same continuity

Leave it to The Batman to have a zombie episode as well as a vampire episode and an alien invasion episode. The series definitely liked to focus on the more out there plots, showing just how much Batman was in over his head, which makes the introduction of the Justice League in the final season makes sense. Too bad this didn't lead into a new Justice League series.

Two episodes before this one that shows how messed up strange is a fistfull of felt where the Ventriloquist is cured and given a nicer puppet to replace Scarface gives him back Scarface and it’s very tragic. Both him and the new puppet are destroyed and he’s crying over saying that he was the best friend he ever had Batman only hopes he’s talking about the nice puppet and then there’s Gotham greatest criminal mind. Which strains creates an artificial intelligence based on the greatest criminals in Gotham, let it escape, and it causes a lot of chaos it the AI figure out who Batman is and it’s only defeated because he didn’t know it was an AI. Also strange put his own obsession with the Batman in it the question is, does the Batman strange know who Batman is and the way the AI figured out Batman is basically the same way strange dead in Arkhamcity
