The Battle Beetle - Airfix

I decided I would do a little bit of a post apocalypse fighting vehicle kitbash. Kind of like a mad max car, or maybe more like something you would see in games like twisted metal, both of which inspired this. I got a simple airfix beetle starter set from the hobby shop and added guns and stuff from my bits box and came up with this. Enjoy!

I think, that the Beetle would have looked quite interesting with a tank turret on the roof. Perhaps I should try something like that myself though.

Jan. 2018---FYI: checked with Airfix's U.S. distributer and told they only make the English version...with steering wheel on right side of vehicle. Kind of surprising considering the number of VW's sold/made in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. And who knows how many are being driven south of Mexico? What's REALLY surprising is that Airfix or any other plastic modeling company doesn't make a VW bus in 1/32nd scale? Only ones I can find in 1/32nd & 1/36th scales are diecast ones, some having a plastic body, others a combination of plastic & metal. While they have play value (doors open some, others have cargo doors open), detailing is really lacking. Going to ask Airfix if they'd consider making another console so steering wheel can be on the left side & why no bus kit available in 1/32nd scale. After watching your video from a year ago, bought 2 of these kits and may buy 2 more for some different modifications. One will be stock, with scratch built roof rack on it. A pe set is available, but more fun/cheaper to DIY. The next will have a openable roof, while another will have an area cut open w/hatch. Found photos via Google of a rack on the engine compartment, along with the spare tire mounted on the trunk. Someone took an actual Bug and modified the rear passenger body area so it's now a FOUR DOOR Bug. Others have been modified with fenders cut away to allow bigger tires, kind of like a sand buggy. Thanks again for the video, but didn't care for the background music during your commentary.....REALLY distracting. And yes, I did watch your video a 2nd time and would of given it another thumbs up, but youtube won't allow this.

I concur not cutting toward yourself, I cut the tip of my index finger off trying to cut the waist joint of a Battletech Wolverine to reposition it. The joint was a peg not solid so the knife went through easier then I expected, luckily I only got the very tip but now I use a heated blade as it makes cutting parts far easier and keep my fingers behind the blade.

Thanks for the video as I'm getting back into modeling (aircraft/armor) after 15 years, but didn't want to go back to detailing everything either. Then found zombie dioramas on KZbin and photos on Google and I got hooked. Working on modifying an old built, Italeri Humvee, a horse, bicycle and BMW 75R motorcycle, all in 1/35th scale. Looking for/finding civilian vehicles in 1/35th is impossible, so hello 1/32nd. Looking at buying a couple of these kits and didn't know the steering wheel is on the right side, so that's a medication to make. Also, want to make the modifications as a zombie survival car as realistic as possible instead of the Mad Max version you did.

No zombiefied horse....more like the first showing of The Walking Dead. However, looking at doing a old MacDonald (from the nursery rhyme) dio with Mac sticking one zombie in the belly with his pitchfork and while shooting another with a pistol, the title would be "first it was locusts in the corn and now it's zombies in the chicken coop?! With farm/zoo animals that look like 1/32nd scale from Dollar Tree, thinking of having a billy goat or ram hitting some zombie in the ass.

Jan. 2018---Been building a lot of stuff to use in my current & future dioramas.....as in having 21 different ones I hope to build, plus some I haven't even written down, but have paintings of survivors as diorama references.
