Adonijah spread his fake news to the people that he will be crowned king of Israel and Judah in place of his father David but the Prophet Nathan and Bathsheba reminded David that Solomon was the rightful heir to the throne so David tells Nathan to take Zadok, the other loyal priests and the palace guards to have Solomon ride on the king's mule and bring him to Gihon where Zadok, Nathan and the priests will anoint him as king of Israel and Judah and they did as David told them. Adonijah tried another attempt to seize the throne from Solomon by asking Bathsheba to marry Abishag the Shunamite but the request was denied and Solomon saw that it was an attempt by Adonijah to seize the throne and orders his loyal soldier and bodyguard Benaiah son of Jehoiada to put him to death.
