Good summary. 1) George Washington was not a British officer during the French and Indian War. He was a colonial officer with the Virginia militia under the command of the British. Washington wanted a commission as a British officer but never got it. 2) "Hessians" were NOT mercenaries. They were German soldiers from 6 different principalities (2 were Hesse Cassel and Hesse Hanau, so all of the Germans were named "Hessians"); the princes of the principalities were subsidized by the British government, but the German soldiers were paid the same as British soldiers. The "renting out" of soldiers (eg Prussians, Germans, etc.) to fight another country's war was commonly used in Europe. 3) The "spear" that is shown is a spontoon that officers used to line up troops; it is not a spear used by Indians or as a primary weapon by officers. 4) There is no evidence that the Betsy Ross flag was ever flown in battle. Francis Hopkinson designed the first American flag, but there is no copy of what the first flag looked like, eg the arrangement of the stars on the blue canton is unclear. What she says about the Betsy Ross is correct. I believe that there is a belt buckle found that shows the American stars and stripes.
