The Battle of Road & Creek: Eastern Freeway vs. Koonung Creek

For 5 decades, one such battle has been happening here in Melbourne’s east. A battle between the Eastern Freeway and the Koonung Creek. One a 17.9 km beast of asphalt and concrete, the other an 11 km stream of muddy water. With both entities holding major significance and importance in the area. This is a matchup of the heavyweights, with so much history between them and much more yet to be made.

Nice video. At this point in our species history, progress is having the courage and wisdom to stand in the way of bulldozing any natural systems, even degraded ones like urban creeks. The Netherlands shows it is indeed possible to choose another way, and reclaim waterways for people and nature in cities.
