It's a n auto generated generic letter. The date is also just based on the date the letter is sent. I've had lots of them over the years. Never addressed to me personally. I do remember when you had to give your details when buying a TV. Thankfully now you don't.

Very true, Andy. I have tried to explain to a friend who is 92 years old that you can use a TV for watching videos of Dad's Army without needing a licence. The licence is not for owning a TV or a video recorder (VCR). The licence is for watching live TV. I am watching KZbin now on my laptop - I don't have and don't need a licence. Elderly, trusting people will pay £ 170 or thereabouts when they could use that money for heating or food during this winter. What a scam! Demanding money with menaces / visits / possible prosecution is sleazy.

They do not have the right to enter your home, without a court warrant & a uniformed police officer in attendance. It's not possible to detect a reciever, only a transmitter. The only way they can tell if you're watching tv, is to look through your window. So, close your curtains or put your tv out of sight if/when watching LIve TV & tell them where to go, if they come round

THIS is what you do..throw away all letters..if they come round to your house-SAY NOTHING and close the door. thats how simple it is. Im 61yrs young and never had a tv licence cos i dont watch live stream telly, YOU dont have to prove you dont watch live tv-they have to prove you do. Never interact with them. I called them yesterday to tell them I don't need a license. They wanted me to make a declaration. I told him if I don't want anything from tesco I don't have to make a declaration. He said blah blah blah so I agreed to do it to shut them up. He then said they'll be in touch in a year for me to make another one. I said I won't be doing it yearly. I've told them what they need to know and if anything changes I'll contact them. He then said " I just need you make you aware that you may still get a visit" so I said "In that case I need to make you aware that I don't give permission for them to come round my house" He did actually say he'd sent that information to the relevant department. About 3 years ago I contacted TVL to tell them I didnt need a licence even though no one has to tell them anything at any time. I won't be informing them again and the letters started already. They can come to the door, hover outside the window in a helicopter, send letters (mostly go to the shredder unopened to be used for packaging) or whatever they want to do. As I dont watch broadcast TV full stop anymore I do not need a licence so will not be buying one or entertaining any discussions about said TV licence that I dont need. I cancelled Sky but they didn't hassle me at all for NOT wanting Sky TV. I cancelled TalkTalk TV too. They didnt threaten to take me to court for NOT watching their TV or wanting their services either. My government issued passport ran out but I didn't get a letter telling me I would go to jail if I didn't renew. Instead of taking liberties and threatening the public the BBC would be better advised to stop WASTING taxpayers money being ridiculous and create new programs to encourage viewers instead of showing the same old stuff we have all seen many times over - that we all paid for many times over too. Please excuse my long rant!
