“The BBC Doesn’t Like Jews” | Miriam Margolyes Comments Deemed NOT Racist OR Antisemitic

The BBC has ruled that Miriam Margolyes' use of the phrase "Jewish and vile" in a radio interview was not racist, despite criticism from Antisemitism campaigners.
During an Aug 13 interview on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, Margolyes, who is Jewish, was asked about a memorable Dickens character from her childhood. She responded, "Oh, Fagin without question. Jewish and vile," and added, "I didn’t know Jews like that then. Sadly, I do now."
Although the remark was edited out following complaints, the BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) rejected claims that the comments were Antisemitic.
In a letter, Fraser Steel, head of the ECU, explained that the comments were more about "vile" behavior than perpetuating stereotypes, and while possibly insensitive, they were not considered racist.

I haven't watched the BBC since the Savile scandal years ago. They often send me threatening letters, but you couldn't pay me to watch them. The last time one of their agents came to my door, I was polite but explained my reasoning. If a business resorts to threatening potential or actual customers with fines and court action, perhaps something needs to change (subscription service) .

I'm not angry at her for her comments. She has an opinion, she has a right to voice her opinion, she wasn't calling for violence. I don't agree with what she said, but she should be allowed to say it. I'm also not even really angry that the BBC exonerated her. They should have. It's being made to be a bigger deal than it should be. But what I find wrong with this is that the BBC should take this line with everyone. But they don't. Two Tier punishments from the BBC, from the government, from the police and from many others in society. If she said the same of Islam, she'd be in prison. Others have said far less severe things about other races in the past and been heavily penalized for it. We live in a crazy time where there is no consistency, a lot of ideological bias and where some people are forced to fear being caught having opinions whilst others can brazenly spit out any old nonsense and get away with it. That's what is wrong.

Your argument falls apart when you realise that the BBC is a public news media broadcasting site. The primary news agency for the whole of the UK. It's their job to tell the news in a factual and informative way that is not intentionally misleading or bias. They are suppose to tell FACTS. The fact that they interviewed this woman and listened to her say that is one thing but to not dispute it and call it the racism that it is. The BBC has gone out of it's way to ONLY tell one side of this conflict and made no attempt to tell the truth about it. I don't know why they are doing this if one of their founding managers is a Anti-Semitist or something but it has to be organised this way the fact that their lies are so routinely spilled.

If we dont like a certain culture or relgion we should be free to express that, it doenst mean others have to agree. You are confused. You can say you hate Islam, Judaism or Christianity because religions are ideas and you can criticise them.. But Jewish is not only a religion but an ethnicity, there are people who don't believe in god but are still Jews. Attributing a negative trait to an entire ethnicity is racism. Characterising Jews as Fagin, or Shylock is antisemitism. You have the right to hate Islam (it showed its true face lately) but saying that all Arabs are cruel terrorists is racism because Arab is an ethnicity, Islam is the religion of the majority.
