My parents grew up in the South Bay and I grew up listening to The Beach Boys. As a matter of fact I told a little girl I babysat about them and she did a report on the a few years ago. Sadly the city of Hawthorne didn’t think it valuable to fit to save the childhood home of Brian, Dennis and Carl where the first song was recorded. Instead the 105 freeway has sort of used that space. I knew a lot of this history because as a music lover I read everything on bands I love. I do remember the press saying that Brian’s drug addiction was what kept him from touring. To learn that the drugs increased his mental healths is sad, but the amazing thing is they made it work. I think the biggest surprise was to learn that they had a studio band,which I knew Glen Campbell had started as a studio musician. Essentially there were two Beach Boys bands, the studio one and the touring one.They amazing voices and how Brian worked tirelessly to make she the harmonies were perfect really shows. The interviews with the studio musicians just reaffirmed Brian’s huge talent. I also loved that the biggest songwriter of today Ryan Tedder is interviewed and gives Brian and the band the credit they are do. I also didn’t known that Al Jardine took time off in then beginning to go to college. He seems so kind and caring. Also to give Carl Wilson for leading the band and basically keeping it going for so long. I will say, I always that Mike Love was arrogant and I’d seen interviews where he’d make it sound like it was all because of him and this only confirms it. Yes, he should have gotten create for the lyrics for the songs he help write, but he should have taken care of that issue with his Uncle years ago. RIP Dennis, Ryan, Glen.

A few things I never knew. David Marks was an original beach boy and Dennis and Charles Manson wrote a song together

And the song was a B-side of one of their hits - which is two or three steps further, I guess

There was already an indirect connection between Frank Marshall and the Beach Boys before this documentary. Frank's father Jack wrote television themes such as "The Munsters Theme," and also the theme for the short-lived sitcom "Karen," sung by the Beach Boys: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGTSkGafjct-iJY

If you want to watch two hours and don't know absolutely anything about how Dennis and Carl Wilson died - or even that they died at all - this is the one for you. It is not as superficial as this review, of course.
