Dennis was one of the hardest hitting drummers in rock history. I knew a guy who roadie'd for them who told me that Dennis didn't just break heads - he broke the STEEL hoops on his snare!!

The Beach Boys had the best chemistry of just about any American band. Brian’s songwriting, Mike’s showmanship, Carl’s peacefulness, Dennis’ heart, Bruce’s professionalism, and Al’s steadiness. Man, bands like these don’t come around often!

The Beach Boys were largely self-taught musicians, especially in their early years. Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson, as well as their cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine, were all passionate about music from a young age and spent countless hours practicing and experimenting with different sounds and styles. The Wilson brothers, in particular, were known for their natural musical talent and creative instincts, and they played multiple instruments each. Brian Wilson was a gifted songwriter and producer who taught himself to play piano and other instruments, while Carl and Dennis learned to play guitar and drums, respectively, through a combination of practice and experimentation. While the band members did not have formal training in music theory or composition, their intuitive understanding of harmony, melody, and rhythm helped them create the distinctive sound that made The Beach Boys one of the most popular and influential bands of the 1960s and beyond. Over time, the band members did work with professional musicians and producers who helped refine their sound and technique, but their early success was largely due to their natural talent and passion for music.

I saw this show at Met Stadium in Minneapolis that summer. It was beyond amazing. It marked the band's connection with a new generation of fan. They were finally appreciated, after the Vietnam era (psycho band) era had passed. This 'is' America's band. They have no rival. We have a lot of great bands...but none that can touch the Beach Boys in terms of how much they accomplished, and how long they did it.

I saw them that summer -- the Bicentennial year, what a great time that was in our country - people were more united than nowadays, and the Beach Boys made it feel that way. A magical summer. I saw them at Pine Knob, a beautiful outdoor venue an hour or so north of Detroit. They threw "15 Big Ones" yellow Frisbees out to the crowd and I still have mine. I remember that sailboat, but didn't know Denny designed it. Thanks to Yuotube and the posters who put this stuff up to ensure that times like this never fade away.

Boy I clicked on the video and was gonna have a chuckle at Mike's expense for his get-up (and I'm the rare hugely pro-Mike guy!) and then I caught a look at Al as Uncle Sam. Al's outfit is a pisser. BTW, the way they do the "credits" for this video makes it look like the intro to a sitcom about a fun-lovin', wacky, American rock band that gets into all kinds of humorous situations involving drugs, Transcendental Meditiation, and beards.
