Musicians playing instruments, and intelligible lyrics that are sung, composition, arranging. This could catch on.

Nice. I was way too late to the party and didn't add Pet Sounds to my collection until just a few years ago. I was immediately obsessed and played it on a loop for months despite having heard almost all the songs over the years since its release. Following that I started reading whatever I could about the Smile sessions but was put off by comments about it being "weird and inappropriate music" ( I believe that was a quote from Brian himself). I finally picked up Brian Wilson presents Smile and found myself blown away and going back down the musical rabbit hole again. I know this version of Smile is controversial amongst hardcore fans but to me it is brilliant because it isn't really a collection of songs but more so musical themes that weave in and out of the musical piece seamlessly. I am now looking out for a good deal on the Beach Boys version of Smile to compare and contrast to Brians updated version. If i'm not mistaken the Beach Boys version has some of the work the Wrecking Crew did for Smile which will be a gem itself.

Was this a practice run? The voice mix and voice blend just sound different from what I remember. I do love this song. Brain Wilson had such a gift for pop songwriting. What a melody he came up with here.

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe Carl’s voice is single tracked and this is most likely an early mix of the song and that is why the vocals aren’t as polished as in the final mix

Pretty jarring sax part, but maybe it's because I've listened to the song the original way so many times

I agree, Brian made a good call removing it.

I think you guys are right. The sax detracts from an otherwise perfect song.
