Well I don't know the steps to do such a thing. Personally, if I were contacted about it, I'd rather they let me redo it from scratch using the original multitrack files if they have them. Then I'd be able to make it 100% perfect and release worthy, in my opinion.

This is easily the best stereo mix out there. The vocals sound isolated, with minimal phase shifting - always the biggest issue with creating new stereo mixes with pieces-parts extracted from the mono. Great job.

How do you do this? Not asking for an in-depth tutorial, just wondering how you isolated the instruments to remix this?
@StereoClassics5 жыл бұрын
The multitracks for the instruments already exist, it's just a matter of extracting the vocals and placing them on top of the stereo instrumental.

I'll have to pass honestly. I don't consider myself enough of a fan of the material to make a true mix out of it. Neat! Overall, this sounds really good, good, good, good vibrations! There are a couple of issues I noticed, however: The ending doesn't exactly match the single: one of the overdubs comes in one round too early at 3:47 when it should come in at 3:51 (compare the section to the original mono mix), though this fault is also present in some official mixes, so it's an easy mistake to make. There also seems to be a bit of a volume spike at 2:31 that feels a bit off. Other than that, though, this sounds great! This is one of only two stereo Good Vibrations mixes that I think are better than the official 2012 mix. The other being IHeartMikeLove's 2017 mix: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJe7XmiFoJqjsNE His mix doesn't have either of the aforementioned issues your mix has, but it has its own minor issues such as the cut to the fade happening just a bit too early. His mix is also going for a sound closer to the original mono mix, which may or may not be preferable depending on who you ask. I'm currently not sure which mix I prefer, but both are really, really good.
@StereoClassics4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! On your first point, when I was mixing the song, I listened very intently if that horn actually came in on the first round. I was using the Hoffman master of the mono mix as reference, which is in my opinion the best sound and what I used for the extractions on my stereo mix. I maintain that the horn does come in on the first round, but it certainly seems quiet and is most apparent right at the end of that section. I believe that this is just the result of the fact that the mix is, of course, mono, and the horn is mixed quite low in general. Combine that with the compression, and now you can see how it's buried. I could try to fade it in, but that would be a lot harder to hide in a stereo mix, so I opted to just keep it full volume throughout. I would like to redo this mix, I've had good results. You can hear my attempt four the first four sections here: clyp.it/ylk510bv

Not wishing to sound disrespectful, crass, lacking sensitivity, sexist & unrefined, but the gal doing the "ball-bouncing-under-the-leg-moves" near the beginning of the video and later on in the piece (...I assume that is Brian Wilson's wife at the time, Marilyn Rovell...) well, I do not believe I have EVER seen a more beautiful pair of legs, thigh and hip area, as I did, watching her do those exercising moves with that basketball. Probably the "Hip-Hugger" shorts she was wearing, helped accentuate her mid-area, making it more noticeable, with an extra sense of prominence. But, she had QUITE the figure, whoever that beautiful young lady was. I probably would have not felt the same watching this video when it first was released in 1966, for I was only four years old and had little to no interest in the "mid-section" of a woman's feminine apparatus, at that specific time of my life. OK, finished what I have to say here. Over & out... BCRadio
