The most important album in my life. I thought it was good on my first listen. Then I tripped on potent mushroom tea and listened to it again, then it changed me. I heard everything in the harmonies and the music. Brian Wilson was ahead of his time and cements himself as one of the greatest composer/producers of all time. Check out the Smile Sessions to see where he wanted to expand on his sound.

I love seeing people get a first time reaction to this album, it always puts a smile on my face to know that the Beach Boys are still getting deep appreciation all these years after its initial release. I grew up on them and they're my favorite vocal group ever. Their following album was pretty much psychadelia but with a lofi production, it's crazy stuff!

Along with REVOLVER, the greatest rock album. Not perfect, but despite that, it still towers over almost everything else. Brian is THE American musical genius of the rock era. Up there with Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, few others.

Famously Brian Wilson wrote this after hearing The Beatles Rubber Soul. Brian Wilson sent the rest of the band out on tour while he went in the studio with this project. The band came back and laid down the vocal tracks. On a recent Beach Boys documentary, John Lennon and Paul McCartney got an early listen of Pet Sounds, and that put the fire under Paul to spearhead what became Sgt Pepper.
