I recall seeing an interview with Hal, drummer of Wrecking Crew. He said everyone was astounded watching this 23 year old break down each piece to the musician. Hal said none of them had ANY IDEA what the finished song would sound like with the vocals and they were BLOWN AWAY when they first heard the finished song. He was amazed that B Wilson had all of this in his head ALREADY and was able to put it out there for everyone to enjoy. I thought that was a great story of how so many little pieces come together in the end to make a seamless and timeless song

He is certainly somebody extraordinary. Every person will have their own taste; their favourites and it would be very sad if everybody thought the same. For me, and it’s only my opinion, this song is amongst my top 5 songs. My choice is naturally affected by my age and also where I was; who I was; when I listened to the song or the artist. There are times; there are days when certain songs appeal to me more than others. I can say that this song affects me more when I need reminding of good times and good thoughts.

Brian was like Beethoven at the peak of his career. Soaring higher and higher, then slowly cracking up due to his obsession with perfection. That mad cocktail of his talent, cracking up and his desire for perfection resulted in his 9th Symphony. Truly the best musical, vocal and overall arrangement in the history of rock in my book. A marvel really, that you can hear if you listen to it in pieces like this. I love the Beatles and they were the greatest writers and far more popular for sure, but really they sound like a garage band next to Brian's productions in 1965 and 1966. Gosh, the musical arrangement in California Girls is unbelievable and one of his many songs that remains untouched even to this day.

They're both extremely talented songwriters and groups. Yeah, the Stones are a little more "raw" and blues-oriented, but that doesn't mean their music isn't as good and worthy of recognition as the Beach Boys'.

In the following order: 1) Watch "The Wrecking Crew" documentary; 2) Watch "Love & Mercy" biopic; 3) Read "Musicianship of Brian Wilson" on Wikipedia, including playing the embedded musical snippets; and 4) Listen -- don't watch a video, just listen with your eyes closed -- to "Good Vibrations" which Brian Wilson cut from "Pet Sounds" so he could spend another six months perfecting it. Mind blown. Prior to the above, I knew about the Beach Boys and had heard of Brian Wilson in only the basic sense, but wanted to dig deeper with each of the above steps. Brian Wilson was famous, wealthy, apparently humble, yet he had barely scratched the surface of his musical genius at age 22 or 23. He knew there was so much more music in his head, and he felt compelled to explore and share. So he stopped touring with the Beach Boys to focus on creating what became “Pet Sounds”.

Can you imagine presiding over all of these musicians as these tracks are being laid down:knowing that you're making one of the greatest songs of all time? The fact that old man Wilson prevented Brian and the gang from giving the credit where it's due has probably eaten at Brian for a long time.

No way he knew that. I'm sure he just knew he thought it was good and was passionate about it.

I feel totally blessed to have lived through the sixties with all of the beautiful music in the USA and England. Although I was really a Shadows and Beatles fan The Beach Boys music really was the soundtrack of my life. My all time favorites have to be good vibrations, Darlin and I can hear music.

wow... thanks so much guys. These are - truly MASTERS! to hear it so naked is such a study of the inside mind of Brian, producer - and session players.
