I felt like we were soooo lucky with the foliage timing. Maybe it's like that every year, but I just felt like it couldn't have been better!

So cool! I’ve paced my mom on The Bear for years and I plan on doing the entire race next year! If I succeed I’ll be the second youngest and I’ll set an age record for the 17 year olds because no 17 year old has done it. And it’ll be my first 100 miler. I also want to do a documentary like this. I hope to see you next year!

That's so cool! Is the other one Howard Wang? If so, we actually did the Grand Slam together in 2021. Anyhow, I'll probably be there so hopefully we meet on trails! (still not 100% sure as it depends if I'm picked for Tor des Geants)

@@runningwithsimonHoward is one of them, but there was this 15 year old in 2004 that claimed the title of the youngest. Howard was 18 when he finished. But yeah, I really enjoyed the documentary. Thanks for your efforts for making it!

Good weather. Been there when wet and muddy. Lots of wet squishy meadow muffins on the trail. Slip and slide at times.

Yes 100%! We were very lucky for sure. I was on those trails the weekend before, and I think it had snowed a few days before. Anyhow, it was slick and slippery mud (mixed with cow diarrhea...). Lovely... I was worried a bit about it, but turned out things dried up and we had lovely weather (rain was forecast for the night and second day, but it cleared up)

This is a beautiful area! I visited Bear Lake this last summer for a family reunion. I was able to enjoy a few trails while there, but not 100 miles ;-) Great job! Awesome video!

It was absolutely gorgeous indeed! I think one of the thing that made it unique is the range in altitude from like 5k to 9k - the changes in vegetations and colors was particularly obvious! A big contrast to the higher ones in Colorado from the summer where at some point, it's mostly rocks and the occasional mountain flowers (which I love too but is very different)

Doing all these hundreds has been really inspiring!! You should do an end of the year summary of how you trained to maintain the fitness, what made some of the hundreds more manageable than others, and what your favorite overall course was!! I'm genuinely interested and sure others are as well! Quite the performance 🎉🎉

Thanks for the tip. I know people like those, but I really don't like the feeling of toe socks. I might try them again some day, but for now taping ahead of a race isn't THAT inconvenient. Plus, I'd still need to tape my heel.

How rocky are the trails compared to other races you have done?
@runningwithsimon Жыл бұрын
It was fine - nothing too bad. Overall it was a very "runnable" course - worst case was that sometimes you had to watch footing going downhill before of rock, but manageable (nothing like say Mogollon or Ouray where sometimes you HAVE to walk downhill).
@pastryhousehippo Жыл бұрын
Would you recommend that hat with the flap for hot runs? Have been considering as a runner that gets really hot but haven't felt confident enough to make the purchase
@runningwithsimon Жыл бұрын
I hardly ever run without it anymore! I honestly don't know how big of difference it makes for heat itself, but for the direct impact of the sun on my neck, that's a huge difference (I am fairly light skin and burn easily). That said, I'm sure you could also get away with a cheaper brand or just use some cloth/buff as makeshift . .... I do miss my funky hate :/ ps: I also use the hat basically on any hike nowadays too. Especially at altitude where the sun just hits so much harder. Again, I don't think it's so much about heat, but more about the sun hitting your skin. For the same reason, I often use arm sleeves very frequently
