May this ride never end. I'm afraid that when this ride is retired it will be the last of its kind. I hope that this savage, visceral experience will live forever. It's not about the tallest, nor the flashiest, nor the fastest, nor the most "extreme". Sure, there's a niche for those and I'm onboard for that. But dayum, give me this savagery all day long. Give me the banged knees, give me the headaches, give me anything that reminds me that I'm alive and not in control. Give me that reminder from the double helix that it's the best there ever was and ever will be. Go ahead, do your 80 or 90mph coaster, but at least give me this ride one more time so that I can live.

It really will be sad once this gem gets removed from the park. I am so glad they have done re-tracking to the ride a few years ago which was much needed. It still gives an awesome experience without too much head banging, whiplash, or jerkiness like most old wooden coasters nowadays (which I don’t hate necessarily, but I don’t love it either). If I grew up with this coaster, then I would feel the same way about this coaster as you.

I and my older brothers worked at KI in it's first years after opening. I started in the summer of 1973 and worked their for 4 seasons. I worked in the Food Service warehouse, german beergarden and was a stand manager for one season. It was very hard work, many didn't last a full day. I remember when the Beast was built, I'm pretty sure it was the largest coaster in the U.S. We made $2.65/hr and got a small bonus at the end of the season if we worked the entire season. That job got me through the first two years of college, so I am grateful.

As it was a weekday in May the park was not busy so a bunch of us rode it half a dozen times. As a result of conquering that fear I rode The Beast the year it opened. An unbelievable experience in an era when wooden coasters ruled the world!

I rode all of the coasters at my home park back in 2018 and since then I had not been afraid of nothing maybe besides some of the strata coasters. The scariest one I have ridden was X2 at night in SFMM back in 2021, and after that I am not scared of coasters really anymore. Maybe they should give The Beast a RMC makeover just like Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point. A mile-and-a-half long wooden roller coaster with a steel track. Every time it goes into a tunnel it does a barrel roll. You feel yourself twirling 360 degrees but you can’t see anything. The ride goes so fast, it only lasts two minutes and thirty seconds. They finally hit the brakes at the very end of the ride. They keep the name The Beast. It’s just new and improved.
@itsdecentpovs27288 ай бұрын
I think it would be a great idea, but I think Kings Island would just rather keep The Beast. It’s an iconic ride, and they have put so much work and maintenance into it that it would be almost a waste RMC’ing it. If Kings Island did do that, then would be the least thing I would expect from them. I think it would be more likely they RMC The Racer instead. I’m not even sure if Kings Island would RMC any of their wooden coasters though because they all are good as is. Not only that, but as you said Cedar Point is only 3-ish hours away and they already have Steel Vengeance. I think Cedar Fair would rather give their parks a variety of coasters at different locations. You bring up a good point though, as an RMC’ed Beast would be probably one of the best coasters in the world.
@davidjunker27728 ай бұрын
@@itsdecentpovs2728 Maybe they could just keep it the way is, but give it an all steel track. No barrel rolls, but it just takes off after the first drop hill. It just hauls at 75 mph…goes through 5 or 6 tunnels…even going sideways at times. Redesign the track so that it doesn’t have a second lift hill. It just keeps going and going until the very end. They could have a company other than RMC do it. Same idea with a different style. That’s right! Cedar Fair, who has owned Cedar Point since 1870, bought King’s Island in 2006. I had forgotten.
@itsdecentpovs27288 ай бұрын
I could see them doing something like that in a way since it would be an expensive investment, but there would be much less maintenance probably. I could see GCI doing that since from what I know of White Lightning at Fun Spot Orlando got a similar treatment.

The only ride I missed that I really wanted to go on was Tatsu (which was being repainted and remodeled that whole season back in 2021). Otherwise I got to ride some nice rides like X2 (huge bucket list coaster) at night which was an amazing experience as well. Wish I was closer to Magic Mountain since it is a nice park it just needs some of their rides not closed all the time lol. :)
@Missglam678 ай бұрын
@@itsdecentpovs2728 you should come back to CA and ride Tatsu. I was afraid to for a long time but now it’s a surprising smooth graceful ride but it’s also intense with that preztel loop. Oh and Colossus never really went away or got removed. It just got a makeover. The spirit of the classic still lives on. Riding Twisted Colossus still has that wooden roller coaster iconic look and feel… with a twist! 😃😃

they should really RMC this. It would be the best RMC conversion ever.
@itsdecentpovs27285 ай бұрын
Yeah, but I think it’s a long way off before they do an RMC conversion. They have already retracked the ride a year ago, and also Steel Vengenace at Cedar Point is only around 3 hours away. I would imagine they would like to have variety, but if the ride gets too hard to maintain I could definitely see an RMC conversion being an easy fix.

Really? That’s awesome actually! I bet it was awesome back in 1979. In my opinion it’s one of the best wooden coasters in the world, but compared to some of the other coasters we have today I think I would not consider it to be the best coaster in the world.
@rickwilliams9673 ай бұрын
If you really want to get freaked out, sit in the back. The front people have to go slow. By the time the back gets there, people are already screaming and losing their shit. Best way to do a first ride on a coaster. Gives you more psychological damage than the front seat.
@itsdecentpovs27282 ай бұрын
I really wanted to try the back at night, but we wanted to get other credits before the park closed. The front was really fun though, but the back was also probably an interesting experience. If I go back, I will try to get a back row ride.

@@itsdecentpovs2728Rode The Voyage for the 1st time June 2023. Surpassed The Beast for #1 Woodie for me (since1979).
@itsdecentpovs27288 ай бұрын
They are both pretty comparable. In my opinion I will probably say The Voyage is better, but the old Beast without trims might be better than The Voyage. On the Voyage the second half is good and still pretty fast which is crazy since the mid-course slows the ride down a lot.
@clayfacundus4823 ай бұрын
Wow....... they slowed that puppy way down from when I rode it
@itsdecentpovs27282 ай бұрын
Yeah, the trim brakes added throughout the ride really make the ride much slower than it should be going. I’ve heard from people that without the trim brakes on the huge helix at the end it gave you insane lateral forces, but they added those trims a long time ago for the coaster.

They re-tracked it in 2022 and that’s all I know about it. I’m not sure if they replaced the wooden railing on the ride though. It is certainly unique though as the railings span through most of the coaster.
