I realize everyone has his/her own tastes and likes and dislikes in music, but I don't understand the negative comments here. I've seen Dave and the Beat in concert about a dozen times in the past few years, and these guys are tight. The shows are fun, the music is phenomenal, and Dave can still belt it out very well. King Schascha adds a great deal of energy and fun to the shows and is a talented reggae artist in his own right. I think that Roger's band is also very good, as is another iteration, "The Beat Goes Bang," with original drummer, Everett Morton. Bottom line, love and unity. This music is meant to unite us all, not divide us.

Finally, some more ska on the BBC! Ft. "Trombone Shorty" + Ex-Specials vocalist Rhoda Dakar in the backing vocalists.

Not sure Dave's version of the band nails The Beat's sound as well as Roger's band did, but it's great to see him still doing this stuff. Tragic news about Roger this week, would be great to see Dave and the remaining original members do a tribute concert for Rog later in the year.

Seen both Dave's and Rogers' versions of the band separately and have to say Rogers (RIP) band version was far far better. Why? Because 1. Roger used musicians that were of the same age and country that lived through the same era and fully lived through and loved the whole Ska period/culture in the UK so therefore had a total feel for the music that was originally created at that time during the mid seventies through till mid eighties and understand the philosophy/ culture 2. Dave on the other hand put a band together that was more Las Vegas and American full of a more cabaret performance. Which is fine but leaves alot to interpretation. The Beat were originally from Birmingham, UK. Prodiminatly a working class in your face, say what you mean and mean what you say type of band , open minded and opinionated that had something to say about the wsyctgd country was run and how they stood politically which was socialist and projected an image and character of working class people that could be related to at that time in the UK. What Dave has done here is turned something that said and stood for something into just another band that has become just light entertainment. Which is sad. Don't get me wrong I understand you have to make a living but at least involve yourself with people that understand the music, understand the culture of the music and understand and appreciate what the band was trying to be, which was never typical Las Vegas American caberet bullshit. DAVE, I LOVE YOU MAN AND I GREW UP WITH YOUR MUSIC, BUT FUCK ME DAVE!!! YOU' VE BEEN IN THE U.S FAR TOO LONG DUDE.....

"The Tears of a Clown" was written by Hank Cosby, Smokey Robinson, and Stevie Wonder. Americans. It was originally recorded by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles and released in the early 1970s.

This band would do just fine without Schascha, who doesnt harmonize at all with Wakeling the way any of his predecessors did. Besides clowning and jumping all over the stage can anyone else explain what purpose he serves? Invest in the ladies who actually do a better job representing two-tone.

All these comments are so funny! At least Rankin Roger said I was the best part of Dave’s band... and just a question if you say Dave’s voice is shit, how do I harmonize with that??? Anyways how’s Covid 19 treating y’all? I am living it up...

Dreadful performance. I loved the Beat but this was really disappointing. The black guy jumping about is just irritating- I don't see what he adds to it. Dave's voice is gone and his guitar sound has changed from that great chorusy chiming sound of old. Had to look back at old live videos to remind myself how great they once were. Rankin Rogers Beat is far more original sounding

All these commenters need to get an education; ok, this band is not up to the Beat standards, but originally Dave WAS the voice of the band, this song included. and yeah, they should have just reformed, multiple versions was never a good look.
