When Paul offered this song to BADFINGER, it was under the condition that they play it just like this demo. They did and it was a hit, but it still had Paul McCartney(and The Beatles) all over it.

Amazing thing about this is it was just a demo Paul recorded on his own. He played all the instruments. He wrote this song for Badfinger, a band that the Beatles’ record label, Apple Corp, had signed up.

The Beatles had so many GREAT SONGS that they gave this one away to a band named BAD FINGER that they had signed to their APPLE RECORDS lable. The Bad Finger version was a fairly big hit and appeared on the soundtrack of the movie 'The Magic Christian' that starred Peter Sellers and a certain Drummer named RINGO STARR! Ringo was surprised to hear the song at the premiere of his film! True story.

It's really just Paul McCartney by himself, on piano bass and drums, and overdubbed vocals. He wrote the song for the new group Badfinger to do and they used it in the movie Ringo was in with Peter Sellers "The Magic Christian" which was an off beat comedy.

The Anthology album series 1 - 3 was released mid 90`s. These albums include alternative takes of well known Beatles songs and tracks they considered for release but were later rejected. One was called If you´ve got trouble featuring Ringo on vocals. Not a very good one though, easy to see why it was rejected and instead Ringo sang Act naturally on Help album.

I didn't realize Paul actually did a demo of this song. Interesting Badfinger never changed a single thing in the song including maybe filling the MMMMMMMM bits with lyrics! The Beatles should have released it & given it the full treatment! Still Lots of Beatles songs to go Jayy & they are all good.

There's a reason that Badfinger's version is so similar...directions from Paul! Having written the song and recording the demo, Paul advised the young band (paraphrasing) " Just record it like I did, and it will be a hit". They did so, and he was right.

There is only one “Beatles” version of this song. They released an early mix on their Abbey Road Special Deluxe Edition. Is just missing some overdubs. Btw, John was in the control room giving Paul some suggestions.

This particular version is a demo that Paul recorded by himself where he plays every instrument and was recorded in less than an hour. The song was given to the band Badfinger and it became their first hit.

In the summer of 1968, The Ivey's were signed to Apple Records (in the companies early developmental months) but was asked to change their name. Enter John Lennon. 14 months earlier, when the Beatles were recording the tracks for their upcoming Sgt. Peppers album, the band was recording the initial backing track of a brand new and still unnamed song. John. who was playing a piano, had recently injured the middle finger on one of his hands. When asked by the control room the songs name, John, after looking at his injured MIDDLE finger offered 'Bad Finger Boogie'. So when the Ivey's needed a name change, John offered up Badfinger. The unnamed song later became 'With A Little Help From My Friends. RNB

McCartney had been comissioned to write songs for the film "The Magic Christian" starring Peter Sellers & Ringo. He wrote and recorded this song but then offered it to Badfinger. He produced and then used this song and 2 more of their originals ( Carry On Until Tomorrow, Rock of All Ages) for the movie. Paul did a few of these solo demos for songs that other artists recorded.

There are other versions by the Beatles, but they are all just demo run throughs. The song was written for the band Badfinger, who they had just signed to their record label. This is the only version released as a Beatles' song. Hey maybe you can do the Anthology songs and not have to deal with copyright issues. Great Anthology songs are "Can't Buy Me Love", "Leave My Kitten Alone", "12-Bar Original", "Tomorrow Never Knows (Mark 1, Take 1)", "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) (Take 5)", and "Come Together (Take 1)".

@@normandavidtidiman9918 I mis-spoke. There is only one demo, but different stages of it being built. The versions on Anthology and the Abbey Road Deluxe release are the same, just different mixes. Yesterday and Blackbird were by the Beatles, although Paul was the only one playing on them.
