Written for MIa Farrow's sister Prudence, who was meditating so much in India with The Beatles that John wrote this song to get her to come out and join everyone. @dcg4mn19 күн бұрын
Yeah: centralizing theme is great but it’s NOT the only way to make albums- how odd and constricting their invented rules are that they’re trying to impose on others: you can’t have the Beatles without their breaking down of boundaries and their voracious creativity.

Naming a single favorite Beatles song is a cruel choice, but if I HAD to chose THE perfect Beatles song, I would have to go with Dear Prudence. Having a song lock on to just 2 guitar notes and then just build and layer and build to that wonderful and beautiful jam at the end, with the marching band snare drum doing it's thing, and those sublime, searing guitar licks sprinkled in at the end.... and the slapping, bouncy, deep bass line...Oh, lord! Music and songwriting just doesn't get much better than this one.

For some of the confused folks here…”Yes, Prudence Farrow Bruns remains actively involved in Transcendental Meditation (TM). She began practicing TM in 1966 and became a certified teacher in 1968 after training with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh, India. Over the years, she has been a passionate advocate for TM, teaching the technique and sharing her experiences. In a 2018 interview, she reflected on her transformative journey with TM, stating, “It was the fulfillment of everything I wanted… I felt whole.” In 2022, she continued to share her insights on meditation, discussing the profound impact of TM on her life and its benefits for others. Her enduring commitment to TM underscores her belief in its potential to bring about personal transformation and inner peace. For a deeper insight into her experiences with TM and her time with the Beatles in India, she has written a book”.

She even paid my uncle to take me to see them in 1966 at Dodger Stadium. It wasn't until I was an adult that I realize that SHE was the Beatles fan and didn't want to repeat what happened with Elvis. Such a beautiful, gentle scene set by John both lyrically and with the softly descending acoustic progression. Then Paul comes in, being totally assertive with both drums and bass. Such a strange, bold choice. It could have spoiled the mood, but it doesn't! It just makes the song more powerful and, I feel, helps it down the sort of surreal road where it reaches its climax. Most people wouldn't have treated a ballad like this. But this isn't most people. This is The Beatles.
