Thank you! I believe if this song had been recorded a few years later it would indeed be mixed in this way. In the late 60's acoustic guitars were mixed to the outer edges in stereo recordings. The Beatles had enough multi-tracks available at this time but this type of mixing just wasn't fashionable until a few years later.

When this song was released it was almost three times as long as traditional singles of the era. EMI and Capitol tried to get the band to do an edited shorter version, saying that "Radio won't accept a single this long"....John Lennon replied: " They'll play it because it's Us!". He was right.

Exactly right. The sound-originally captured on reel to reel studio tape-is almosr indistinguishable here from soley digital-era production. Digital remastering/remixing of analog can end up cold or warm and britt's work is the latter, so very natural-sounding, as it should be for this kind of material. The result is that The Beatles themselves shine through. The balances are superb too-nothing weirdly too loud or buried in the soundscape either. As George Martin's book title goes: ALL YOU NEED IS EARS.
@charlyW342 ай бұрын
To Meltonin..Hi. I gave you a solid thumbs up. Saved me from typing much the same sentiment. I thought I had copyrighted "cohesion" as a word to explain the mastery of George Martin, but I'm happy to share! One friend of mine also used the term "fairy dust" to explain the same magic. Gilles M. on the other hand, seems to have lost the plot.

@britt2001b2 ай бұрын
Thanks! The horns change from Giles' mix was just one of those happy accidents. It wasn't intentional. The de-mixing program couldn't separate the horns from the guitar 100% so, when I widened the soundstage of the guitar the horns were widened also. I attempted to correct it with some manual separations but dropped that idea because as you discovered, it sounded kind of nice.

Paul was writing so many of their hit singles that were released from 1965 to 1970 yet he never walked out on the band so he could go solo - cut a great new deal for himself and pocket all the money - but no - Paul never did such a thing.
