I've always been a rhythm player and so really appreciate all of your nuances in John's rhythm patterns. As a rhythm-chord oriented person (who tries to play music!) I'm always drawn to songs that have chord sequences that make me take notice. I absolutely love the chord sequence in these verses, the G# and E+ are wonderfully used to evoke the dreamy quality of the lyric.

I remember waiting in my friend’s 1966 mustang on 42nd street in Manhattan for the record store to open to buy the White Album. We heard some songs from it on the radio but we bought Beatles records without hearing it first in those days. It had an impression of the Beatles name on the cover and it had pictures inside.

Great breakdown of how John and George played. Listening to Apple Musics version of the White Album you cannot hear any of Johns andGeorges playing as the version available is very predominately bass which appears to drown out any other instruments. I have an original EMI 3 3/4 inch reel to reel tape of the White Album which would probably represent what was recorded, but unfortunately I have not the means to play it. Great what you are doing cannot wait for your next breakdown of John and George’s playing.

Adding the half step to A flat gave the song a bit of being tired or melancholy feel to it which reflects the whole meaning of the song. .Not to mention the added E+ chord. All which was brilliantly done on purpose in my opinion.
@aceopinions2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, great job as always! Just to note at 3:53 in the video, you mention the A flat, but the video shows a G sharp. Apologies, I have only a basic knowledge of music, so I guess these are in reality the same chords?
@MPfrance2 жыл бұрын
Tom - Thanks and Yes they are the EXACT same chord. It's more proper to call it a G# since the song is in the key of A (which has 3 sharps. C#, F# & G#) But when I think (out loud on video) of that 2nd chord descending from an A chord - the 'jazz guy' in me spouts out Ab.
