The Beatles in Australia - remembered by those who were there

The Beatles' 1964 tour of Australia was a landmark event that significantly shaped the nation's music and cultural landscape. Beginning in Adelaide on the 12th of June, the tour saw more than 350,000 people, half of the city's population at the time, welcoming the band with an enthusiasm that was replicated in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, where the Beatles played to packed venues.

Nice work Tom. One thing I noticed doing our research was those crowd figures in Adelaide seem to vary considerably according to source. But, the main thing is that it was unprecedented and would have been staggering to them. Thanks for putting it together.

My Father and I were at the Sydney concert, seats 1A & 1B. Amazing event for an 10 year old at the time. Besides the noise, one memory I do have was the crowd surging forward in their seats, pushing me down. My Father raised his arm, then sweeping back, pushed them back like falling dominoes.I was on cloud nine the next day at school.
