In my opinion for a CD box set, this set has never been surpassed for both the packaging and recording quality. Hats off to EMI and the Japanese execution of this beautiful creation. My most cherished CD box set.

Gday Dave, hope I find you well. I remember visiting JBHI fi in the Hobart CBD on the 9/9/09. I was cashed up and as you would expect there was also a line up of super enthusiastic Beatles fans eager to get their hands on the Mono or Stereo CD boxsets. I recall spending around 10 minutes in line awaiting my turn to reach the cash register. Once I finally reached the checkout I was informed that if I wanted the Mono or Digital stereo cd box they had one copy of the Mono CD boxset. It was my intention to purchase both the mono & stereo boxsets, especially the digital stereo boxset because it contained ‘ Let it be ‘ & ‘ Abbey Road’. Anyway I made a spur of the moment decision to buy the Mono CD boxset and didn’t buy the digital stereo boxset until a couple of years later. I’m so glad i invested in the Mono boxset as It’s unique and there’s nothing else like it on the Beatles CD market worldwide. The digital stereo boxset was made available for years making it far less collectible in my opinion.

I have this set and the attention to detail is wonderful. I have a few of the 2014 mono vinyl LP albums too but they are now very difficult to find and cost a king's ransom. As the Mono CD set is still available and relatively affordable it is great to have.

I didn’t know that the Beatles had mono versions of their albums, until I bought the Beatles in stereo and mono simultaneously back in 2012 atmy favorite record store here in Portland Oregon which is Music Millennium. it blew me away how amazing the sound has improved in the stereo remastered in the mono versions and it’s great to hear unlimited versions of all the Beatles songs like blue Jay Way all you need is love revolver songs like taxman tomorrow never knows and love you too with the longer fade out and also got to get you into my life with the longer fade out which I love I think the packaging in the Beatles in mono is a really fantastic site I love it it’s great. and the way that it was put together was very much well done I do wish Apple would release the pills and mono on the vinyl that’s one box that I’ve been wanting to get and I regret not getting it.

Hi Dave, I was working in Euston on 09/09/09 and nipped down to HMV on Oxford Street in my lunch hour and picked up both the Mono and Stereo CD boxes. Probably the most expensive lunch I have ever had but worth every penny. I purchased the stereo vinyl box in 2012 but missed out on the mono vinyl box, it’s still on my wish list….maybe one day. The relative portability of this set is a major reason I sprang for this set. It beats the bulky stereo set on CD, but suffers from a lack of information that the trifols stereo has. A small price to pay. I also like abandoning the jewel cease. I’m a bit clumsy and have broken some jewel in my timr.

I have the Mono CD box as well as most of the mono LP reissues from 2014. I stupidly sold my mono copy of Sgt Pepper because I didn't think I needed it any longer, thanks to he remix. ANyway, you made me go to my record shelf and take out my mono Please Please Me and just gaze at the beauty that was the original Parlophone design.

So nice,B Dave , We recall the issue day,as if we're only 4 yr.s ago. A little celebration @ the store;&:the individual stereo albums( on CD,ya know) we're being offered at only 9.99 US.$,so got several of them upon release. Wasn't 'till couple years later that knew of the Greatness of Mono set. Turned out was one o' my Best 'bay' purchases,so far. We literally placed one large great speaker out on patio,gorgeous day& proceeded to be blown away with listening to 'Pepper,MMT.& White album,1stvtime ever - in Mono sound. Two fun days ,celebrating B.recordings,from my memory vault!! BD.,are you still looking for 1,2 the ' American issued albums', original.,great condition?? And, if so, can you do 'bay'purchase,from here, with little or very reasonable s& h.?? Hello Dave! It was great to have the full mono albums on digital format for the first time. Although this set sounds good, IMHO, I think it deserves a second remastered version for digital format, as they sound already great on analog (vinyl). There also seems to be more counterfeits of it out there than genuine ones.

I love the mono mix of Sergeant Pepper and the revolver and even the white album is great too because there is lots of treasures in there and even rubber soul is great especially when John Lennon coughs before he sings the line so I looked around and I noticed there wasn’t A chair line in the song. What are your overall feelings of the Giles Martin remixes of the Beatles box that’s enough come out and do you love the Beatles red and blue but I’ve recently been remix what are your highlights for you and what are the ones that you wished were remix better as far as songs go both on the red and the blue album

Hi jesse, As I mentioned, I first heard the Beatles stereo albums in the early 1980’s and obviously with each consecutive album, the sound and the music seemed to improve. In 1982, I brought the Mono reissues and found a completely new experience listening to the albums with many differences between both mono & stereo. Ahh yes that cough on Norwegian Wood. I’ve gotta say on the new remixes , it sounds more like an intake of breathe! Which brings me to the new Red & Blue albums. Generally, I was extremely impressed with around 95% of all the sound quality and remixes. My main thoughts are , the Andy white version of Love me do should have been kept instead of the single version like on all previous Red albums. Also yellow Submarine should have been the stereo version remixed , not the mono version into stereo with the extra strum at the start and johns life of ease comment. Not that keen on the mixes of I am the walrus and also Old Brown shoe. I actually prefer the vinyl versions with the extra tracks in the third disc rather than being within the red & blue tracks. Finally, as much as I love Now & then , it doesn’t really belong on the blue album, it should have been a stand alone release. I think my favourite remixes are definitely the early tracks like Please Please Me ,Twist & Shout, A Hard Days Night , Ticket to ride aa well as Magical Mystery Tour , Fool on the hill, Hey Jude and many others. *"…with very inferior set becoming available and originating from China"* I was living in Shanghai in ‘09-‘10, where I picked up fake copies of both the stereo remasters and the mono set for around US$120 for both. The stereo remasters even included the USB thumb drive with the 24-bit flacs and software. In Shanghai you can (or could) get fakes of everything (I even bought a fake iPhone) ranging in quality from atrocious to nearly indistinguishable from the genuine. My sets fall much closer to the latter. Even the USB stem is still intact. Ironically, they even reproduced the FBI warning against unauthorized copying :)

Hi Stephen , It’s really done to personal taste and also depending on the album. For instance , I generally prefer the mono mixes of PPM, WTB, AHDN, RS, Revolver & Pepper. Beatles for sale and Help are better in Stereo, but I love both mono & Stereo mixes of the white album! It really is a personal choice but great to have the choice of both! Stay well!

Hi Dave! As per usual, this was such a great review of the an area of Beatles music history in which I never experienced. At 13 or 14 in 1984 I started my beatles vinyl collection. All that were available were stereo records. So you know pretty much the vinyl I possess from that period. In my mind then, I would have shunned mono even if it were available. I would have shunned it, assuming it was not as good as stereo and kind of old fashioned. I must say I am tempted to get this after your appraisal. It looks fab and I'm sure the listen would be a revelation. Well, better late than never. Do you also possess the equivalent in original mono on vinyl and how do they compare to these cds? We are clearly a very similar age and I actually got the reissue mono editions in 1982 and I was totally amazed by them , the new listening experience after knowing all the stereo editions. Yes I’ve got the 2014 mono box set and in honesty , I feel the vinyl version is better as they were a direct transfer from the mono tapes , so not digitised. The best mixes of these albums, of course, even compared to the very good remixes of Sgt Pepper and the White Album. But the other thing to mention is that these covers are exactly as the originals, not butchered like the versions in stereo. So the attention to detail goes all the way to the correct colour grading for example Sgt Pepper is not as colourful as the horrid 2009 or 2017 versions, the colour is much more subtle, as Peter Blake intended. The White Album cover is a work of art by Richard Hamilton, and should be treated as such. Even the 2018 box, which is excellent, messed this up and presented the cover as a rectangle, when it should have been a beautiful super glossy,slightly off white square box….i know this sounds a bit obsessive but it feels important to me!

Hi Peter, Oh absolutely, the miniature artwork is just as striking and glossy like the original’s which adds to the charm of this box. If they’d made the Stereo box the same , they would have been on to another winner! With the reissues , once again if more and better detail was needed like glossy and Corrected colours , but for whatever reason (probably cost) they don’t seem to bother which is a shame when you think how costly they are. Never wrong with being obsessive, they need someone like you working for Apple so they get these reissues spot on! Stay well!

Hi. I am the lucky owner of this set and as always the Japanese are amazing in reproducing the covers. The stereo set is really ugly in comparison and that's why I bought many of the stereo CD's from Japan in their SHM versions. Beautiful and lavish presentation, but I can't hear any difference in the sound quality between the ordinary CD's and the SHM ones. Have you heard any of the SHM CD's?

Would’ve certainly been better if they’d made the stereo box along the same lines with perhaps the Japanese could have produced that too! I have a friend who knowingly purchased a fake mono box and although the discs sound fine the detail is horrible, misspellings, blurry printing just a cheap imitation all around, 2009 was a great Beatle year just the same.

I think may be the reason why it doesn’t sound as good as probably your sound system I don’t think it has anything to do with the CDs them selves I would keep on listening to the monocytes who knows maybe the music will grind you each time find a good stereo system to listen to it on.
