This is the entire recording of the concert, found in April of this year. It was finally made available in the British Library, but only through presential listening sessions, and now it's finally been bootlegged, on the Japanese market to be more specific. This is a direct rip off the CD in a lossless format, no changes were made to the audio or compression added (aside from KZbin's). Hope you enjoy this historical concert!

I have read and heard quibbling about the quality of this recording. People have to realize that this is not a professional recording from a soundboard. It is an audience recording made by a student who snuck a tape recorder into the show. It was also done on the recording technology that was available to the public 60 years ago. Of course, the quality will be considerably inferior to that of most recordings that you might normally listen to. However, I choose to appreciate this recording for what it is: a historic document of the band that many, many people, myself included, consider to be the greatest of all time at a time when they were beginning their meteoric rise to superstardom. For me, this is an absolute treasure.

Forget the star club tapes, this is the project Peter Jackson should be working on in full force right now. I knew this performance recording was special the first time I heard a clip from it a few months ago. But as I listen more, I am starting to believe that this all in all is perhaps the best show that the Beatles ever played. And it’s for several reasons: First of all, the audience is sober and attentive, and not screaming, creating an environment that allows the Beatles to perform at their peak. Next, it is not an abbreviated show, as were most of their performances from this point forward. To get an hour’s worth of songs is unheard of in Beatles history after 1962. This gives them the opportunity to demonstrate some of their best club covers as well as the new recordings from please, please me, and love me do! which they shelled so quickly once they started to become popular. Seriously, if you can go back in time and only see one Beatles, show live, this has to be it. This should be the first ABBA-type avatar recreation. Am I missing something? 😳

This is an amazing historical document. During Til There Was You, right around the 56:10 mark, before the guitar solo, John Lennon plays an ascending diminished chord pattern that is well known in the jazz vocabulary but rarely, if ever, employed by pop or rock musicians. When playing a diminished chord, a player can substitute another diminished chord based on a minor third interval from the original root. So if the original chord is G diminished, you can substitute a B flat diminished chord. You can extend that pattern to sub diminished chords every minor 3rd above the root. So G dim becomes Bb dim, and Db dim and E dim. That the Beatles had this sophisticated re-harmonization trick already in their kit bag is astonishing given their lack of formal jazz harmony education and their youth. These boys had EARS. All the cover tunes they did on all those marathon Hamburg gigs really paid off. In pop in the 1960's, almost no one but the Beatles used chords like augmented dominant (Oh, Darling) and I don't recall anyone ever using diminished chords, and yet here they are in bleeping 1963, using it like old pros. Remarkable.

the Beatles were using 6-m6-m7-maj7-dim-augmented etc. chord on almost every album. For exemple: opening chord 'All I've Got to Do' Am maj7 6 (576575)

@@sergegirard9712 Yes! Harrison in particular seems to have gravitated towards inside harmony movement. McCartney of course showcased his deep understanding of harmony later on keyboards. George was very clever in his early days and had a lot of practical harmonic awareness. His solo on Til There Was You was a tidy masterpiece that was at once economical, swinging, cool & sophisticated. They had so much confidence in their good taste as well. All those long nights of club work really paid off. Cheers!

Yes love all of this, but to be fair, George did not compose this solo, he copied it off the Peggy Lee record.
@spumpstein9374
@spumpstein9374 6 ай бұрын
@@rarbam I just listened to the Peggy Lee version, and it has no solo, let alone a guitar solo. Lee's version was released in Jan 1960, but the song was first a hit in 1957. Maybe you can direct me to another Peggy Lee version that has that solo? The Beatles' version seemingly was influenced by Lee's Latin arrangement, but unless you can provide a link to another Lee version, I think you may be mistaken. I have always suspected that Harrison copied that solo from another version, but in 50 years of trying to solve this mystery, I have yet to find any reference at all, or evidence proving that this solo existed prior to Harrison's performances. Mark Lewison's Tune In Vol.1 has several references to the song but makes no mention of how that solo was conceived.

Some amazing licks from George, he was on fire! A few bum notes but, hey. This is an incredible document, it could do with some cleaning up but it's arguably one of their best recorded performances. Captures their peak as an exciting live band with a wide repertoire just becoming new recording artists. You can literally hear those Stowe chaps' having their minds blown. A cultural shift was taking place. They were truly Fab! 🙂

I never understood why George Harrison could never replicate his Guitar solo on I Saw Her Standing There in "live" performance! I get a feeling Paul McCartney overdubbed the solo on the studio version.

I don’t think there was any need for him to play the exact same solo on every performance

@@KitsuBeatles George did play the same generic solo over and over again but never like on the album. Watch the Ed Sullivan Show.

What you are hearing here is George's original guitar solo, that he was playing in the clubs long before they recorded the Please Please Me album. When they recorded that album, George Martin said that he shaved the rough edges off the band, to make them sound more like a slick pop band, and that he had them reel in the guitar solos, make them sound more subdued, less raw rock n roll. A lot of people like what he did, shaving off the rough edges, but I've always been of the opposite opinion, believing he shaved way too many rough edges off their sound. Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones echoed what I just wrote, commenting in several interviews that George Martin didn't do George's guitar work any favors, especially on the early recordings.

It’s a great recording but the quality isn’t as good as I expected due to the vocals being too low and George’s guitar drowning out a lot of the band. Is there really anyway that they could clean it up so you think?

I'm surprised 'they' didn't do any noise reduction and/or boost the "talking" audio levels in-between songs. I'm not Peter Jackson and I could make it sound better.

No matter how low John’s vocal is in the mix, you can still hear him sing flat. Every time he sings the word, “her” on “I Saw Her Standing There” both here and in every other live recording. #hilarious 😳
