In any other band George would have been the leader! Way too much talent for just one band. John, Paul, George and Ringo. Never before, and never again.

+Teresa67 Factoid I know what you mean, but, you can't have too much talent in a band. The Beatles were proof of that. Long live the music of the Beatles!

+S F Quinn I was wondering which issue of National Enquirer you read all that from. Was it the same issue where they found the famous "Titanic Baby?"
@sunking2001

+S F Quinn The Beatles were and still are...the soundtrack of my life. I was 11 yrs. old on that famous night of the Ed Sullivan Show. There have been numerous books written about the Beatles over the years. I have to surmise that a lot of writings are not accurate and a lot is accurate. Just because Geoff Emerick wrote his book as a studio engineer doesn't cement his writings as absolute truth. I would tend to believe George Martin before I believed anyone else. Please be aware that many of these books were from authors trying to make a "buck."
@sunking2001
@sunking2001 9 жыл бұрын
+S F Quinn I'm simply stating that "not everything you may read about the Beatles is true." Only two remaining Beatles and George Martin would be able to "set the truth." At least agree to that. BTW...are you the "Mighty Quinn?"

I'm sure that ABC's Shindig conflicted with some oat-eaten Western, or the Lucy Show, so my parents never tuned it in. I never saw Shindig, certainly not with the Beatles (I'd have been five or six when this aired, my sister about 17). To think the U.S. house band on the show included Leon Russell, Billy Preston and Glen Campbell, much of it now rescued in youtube. Thanks for resurrecting this one.

Such a joyful performance as they were rising to stardom! Tons of energy, smiles, enthusiasm....Paul pours a ton of soul into KC, John masterfully makes a "dreary lyric love song" song into catchy pop madness, George gets in plenty of solo time (good audio mix for once...and they actually show him playing his leads!) and Ringo! He gets to drive the Beatle's car and does a great job of pounding the skins and singing. One of the best early Beatles show performances NOT using their hit singles.

That was my first thought also, but it's possible that they overdubbed the harmonica in post production. The rest of the playing looks live. You can hear Paul hitting his strings in between notes and it's live playing. Ringo's snare hits match the video also.

Oh my goodness. So many people here with no clue about The Beatles. Too bad...Tammy, Ringo as a Beatle! Learn more about it before making comments. There was no "they"...He was not inferior. He had the same rights as all of them. Look around to see if in any other band the drummer had space to shine as lead singer...Have you ever heard Charlie Watts's voice? Never...Drummers were only drummers. The only exception was Dave Clark because he owned that band. Do yoy have any idea of why they were called Fab Four? No? Think about it. Sometimes I think it is like a family that found gold and always thought it was beautiful .stones. Never discovered those stones were gold. They are always thinking the Beatles were like any other common band where the members were not connected, they had a leader...Gosh, the only band where all members complemented each other, where the drummer would sing lead in all albums...but people still complain. Complain to The Rolling Stones, to the Byrds...we could not even see the face of the Birds drummer in the video. It is sad. The most important message from The Beatles were heard by just a few. Really sad.

Four things - this was recorded on October 3rd '64, it's not part of a live concert - it's a TV show where they performed three songs...and the instruments were not pre-recorded, this is an entirely live performance - they spent the previous day in this TV studio, rehearsing for it. Finally, the band didn't always sing live during their TV appearances - this only applies to the US, where they performed four times on the Ed Sullivan Show. In the UK and other territories they either sang live or mimed.

+Robert Oppenheimer Thank you! I'm having a debate on this exact topic for this show. The track "I'm a Loser" sounds 100% identical to the official recording. John provides the only telltale lip-synch error on the first harmonica section. The other two songs are also incredibly close to their officials, but some portions sound verbatim.
@jbpink5026
@jbpink5026 9 жыл бұрын
+Robert Oppenheimer Can't verify this, of course, but I read a review that stated when the Shindig show was being issued on VHS (this was the 80s) info was provided from the producer that the TV studios (except Sullivan's, of course)in the 60s were not able to properly balance a performer's vocals with their instruments. Solution was to record the instruments but always have the vocals live. Reason being that lip-syncing was too easy to spot any mistakes, "faking" the instrumentals was much easier (except the harmonica "oops". which was pretty obvious as it involved the mouth). Hope this helps.
