Good video, I have a different take on the new mixes. Coincidentally, I purchased the red and blue albums again a couple of months ago. I’ve always loved the way they were curated. Excellent video as always, guys. I’m excited. Regarding the omission of “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love”, I have it on good authority that we could be seeing a “Beatles Anthology” remix in the near future. Moreover, we could also be getting an expanded cut of “The Beatles Anthology” with more footage of Paul, George, and Ringo. Peter Jackson could once again be involved. Keep in mind that 2025 will be the thirtieth anniversary. Without going into great detail, let me just assure everyone that “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love” have not been forgotten. Moreover, we have yet to get a Blu-Ray of “The Beatles Anthology”. The DVD was released in 2004. It’s long overdue. Stay tuned!

I've pre ordered the four cd box set and the 7" single and I can't wait to hear this final song from what to my mind is the greatest, most innovative and influential band of all time. I still have my copies of The Red and Blue albums that I got as birthday and Christmas gifts off my parents way back in '76 when I first became a Beatles fan and these two albums were my gateway into all of this fantastic music. Looking forward to hearing the new mixes of all the early stuff like she loves you and this boy. The pricing is a bone of contention to some degree with my fellow fans here in the UK, and over here there is quite a stir about the single on cassette rather than CD. (in fact here the CD is having a bit of a revival as sales of this physical format have gone up for the first time in nearly six years) I do think that all the various coloured vinyl editions of the single are a bit much and is there purely to wring out every last pound/dollar from the fans. But all this aside we have so much to look forward to, and what's most important of all is the music, I just know it's going to sound fantastic.

One more reason to get the CD version of the expanded Red & Blue albums instead of the vinyl is that the CD versions integrate the new tracks right into the chronological running order, but for the vinyl sets the first two records of each set just replicate the original 1973 running order, with all the new tracks segregated onto the third “bonus” disc, which just a really stupid way of doing it. FWIW, to my mind there’s never been any point to remixing Rubber Soul since it (along with Help!) we’re already remixed by Giles’ father for their initial appearance on CD back in 1987.
@jordanscott2858 Жыл бұрын
Those remixes are just the original stereo mixes with 80's digital reverb on the vocals to better mask the hard panning that was an artifact of the 4-track technology at the time they were recorded. What they're going to do with the new mixes is actually make the vocals centered or more spread out to make a more modern stereo approach as they did with the 2017 stereo mix of Sgt. Pepper. While also similarly enhancing the instruments, primarily the drums and bass. If George Martin had the technology of today he probably would have made the stereo mixes more akin to what Giles has done. He wanted to remix the whole catalog but didn't have the time to do it back in 1987, I guess EMI were afraid of making the albums unrecognizable to fans who grew up with original vinyl and cassettes. So Help and Rubber Soul were just slightly enhanced for its remixes, and everything else was left untouched for decades. Only in 2009 did we get a CD release of the original stereo mixes of Help and Rubber Soul as part of The Beatles In Mono box set.

Here are my thoughts, it's true, I already own a lot of the mixes that have come out the last few years...and that is a drag. However, the thought of hearing the Red Album with the Peter Jackson technology is a must buy for me. It should be awesome, the Revolver last year was like they lifted cheese cloth from it, It was better than I had hoped for. So, that's where we respectfully disagree. And while the Blue album won't give me a lot of new remixed songs, the ones it will give me make it worth it. Especially the Magical Mystery Tour cuts. Cheers!

For the most part this is awesome. I LOVE that the older material uses the de mixing technology and we get newer mixes (well needed). I also love that the 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 & 2022 mixes are being used too for the later material. There was NO reason for Giles to remix the newer mixes with exception of the early material remixed in 2015 for the 1 album. Thumbs up Apple for sticking to this otherwise there would be confusion over the newer mixes. The older material on the remixed 1 DID need to be redone with the de mixing technology to center the drums etc. My ONLY gripe is Real Love and Free As A Bird aren’t on this compilation in new glorious stereo 😂. Overall A for apple on this release.

I’m undecided about the ‘new’ red + blue albums. On the one hand we are getting 2023 mixes of the early material, which could be amazing. On the other hand, as the songs from Rubber Soul now boast 2023 mixes (surely proof that that album is about to have a remix reissue shortly?) then should we wait? Will it spoil the RS remix when it finally arrives? And what about the blue album? We get 2023 remixes of Walrus and Bull Dog. Does that mean that those albums will be reissued in the near future? Part of me would love to get the two vinyl releases - I bought revolver reissue on vinyl, but not the other remixes from 2017 onwards - but the price tag is a bit too steep. And then there’s the completist side to all this which is that if we buy one then we’ll also want the other! I think I’ll buy the overpriced single on vinyl 7” and then I can move on!!

I agree, and I know a lot of Beatles fans all over the world also agree on that; that they are disappointed that «Free as a Bird» and «Real Love» wasn’t remastered an re-released, and think that they should have been. And many fans (not me, though) has mentioned that they wanted a CD single of «Now and Then». But, I guess Glies Martin will hear that from a lot of people, and hopefully, he would do a single EP for «Now and Then», including «Free as a Bird», «Real Love» and even «Carnival of Light» as well. That would have been a GREAT EP release! What do you think?

The "Red" & the "Blue"were my introduction to The Beatles back in 1973. I always felt the "Blue" covered the later period pretty well. The "Red" not so much (many more tracks could have been added as the songs were considerably shorter). Whoever came up with the list for the added tracks here TOTALLY missed the mark - not so much for the "Blue". (I would have not included Glass Onion & I Want You ). My big peeve is the "Red". Firstly why include 3 covers?? Secondly 3 of the 4 albums that weren't represented very well in the first place - "Please Please Me", "With The Beatles", "Revolver" - all get bonus tracks. BUT WHAT ABOUT "Beatles For Sale"? Does this album count for nothing?? I'M DISGUSTED!! Here's 5 tracks that should have been ESSENTIAL to this set - "I'm A Loser", "No Reply", "She's A Woman", "I'm Down" & "Rain".

Seriously... there is a lot of "received orthodoxy" based on the Lewisohn book. George Martin said he thought Beatles For Sale was their weakest album so of course.. now EVERYONE says that. George Martin says "Only a Northern Song" wasn't good enough for Pepper so when Giles is doing the 2017 Pepper remix and bonus set... it's not even included as a session extra on the OUTTAKES disc. By the same token because they've all gone along with "this album was weak" .. all those potential singles that never were from that album... "What You're Doing" "I'm A Loser" "Every Little Thing" "Don't Want to Spoil the Party" "Words of Love" "No Reply" "I'll Follow the Sun" .. ah nevermind. They include I Me Mine to make a kind of neat sampling of all three on Let It Be.. but the fact is that Harrison never did a full complement of songs for LIB... why not a tighter NEW EDIT of "It's All Too Much" and "Savoy Truffle" two songs which better represent George in the later years for what it is worth. How did "I'm Down" "And Your Bird Can Sing" "I'm So Tired" "I Need You" "I Should Have Known Better" not get selected. It's just a compilation album... and that's an outdated concept perhaps but even as a playlist that is listened to by casual or non-Beatles fans they really missed the mark here!
@TigerRogers0660 Жыл бұрын
@@LBrilliante Agreed!! It's disgraceful how "Beatles For Sale" has been treated over the last 3 or 4 decades. There was a big step forward with the originals on this album - both lyrically & musically (& sound wise). I think as well as the 2 tracks i mentioned, "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party" should have been included - something really fresh & new from The Beatles. The Red and Blue albums were the gateway into the Beatles for 14 year old me back in 1973 and I love them. I'm waiting for reviews of the re-release of the Red, but I've pre-ordered the Blue, which is a pre-made playlist of my favourite period of the Beatles' era, plus a remix of 'Hey Bulldog'. But like the original compilations, they aren't really for us old-stagers. These are the 21st century gateway albums that the 1973 sets were for that generation. In due course, I'll buy the remix of Rubber Soul (if it ever happens)because it's the very start of the Beatles' more experimental side, but going earlier than that, I'm less certain. The songs from Please Please Me through Help were much simpler, and mixed for the transistor radios of the day. Remixes of these (for want of a better term) 'more straightforward' songs risks losing the early 60s feel to them for me, in a way that remixes of their later works don't. That's why I'm holding off on the Red for now.

I think that we diehard Beatles fans are very much on the backburner with this one. Although these updated albums are getting a physical release, I think the real emphasis here is on streaming and making the most popular Beatles songs available to stream in high quality mixes that sound contemporary. They are uninterested in giving the established fans what they want, like Free As Bird, Real Love and Rubber Soul, because they don't feature in what is their current focus, which is broadening the appeal of The Beatles. Lots of young people like The Beatles, but there also exists a huge demographic of young people who won't listen to music that sounds 'old'. Young people are used to music in which the bass and drums are at the forefront, so Beatles music, particularly their early work, will sound quaint and occasionally 'wimpy' to their ears. Queen have enjoyed success with appealing to younger people, because their music wasn't subjected to the limitations of early sixties technology, and things had advanced enormously by the 70s and 80s, so their music sounds closer to modern music when heard by the ears of younger people. As crazy as it seems, as it stands right now, I suspect that a few Wings songs, like Jet and Band On The Run would appeal more to that demographic of younger people than early Beatles stuff, simply because you can hear the bass and drums pumping on those Wings numbers. It's no accident that the most streamed Beatles song is Here Comes The Sun, from the last album they recorded, featuring the most advanced recording equipment they were ever to use, and which features the most modern sounding drums and bass of any of their recordings. That song would not sound out of place alongside modern songs, whereas several of their early songs in their original mixes would.

This news has been a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I am greatly looking forward to the release of Now and Then after decades of being on the shelf, and I am intrigued to hear the new mixes on The Red Album since they haven't re-released the 1963 to 1965 albums yet, so it's a nice sneak peek at what's to come in the coming years. On the other hand, The Blue set is highly underwhelming since the majority of it will be reusing the pre-existing remixes of Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be we already got their boxsets respectively. The only worthwhile tracks on Blue are the new mixes of I Am The Walrus, Magical Mystery Tour, Fool On The Hill, Revolution, Hey Bulldog, and Old Brown Shoe, the latter most especially was WAY overdue for a remix. It suffers from the same issue as the original mix of Long, Long, Long from The White Album where the instruments drown out George's vocals, so I'm glad they finally corrected that mixing choice. I'm disappointed that they didn't bother remixing All You Need Is Love, Lady Maddona, Hey Jude, the single version of Get Back, and The Ballad of John and Yoko, using the 2015 1 mixes since they had bothered to remix Let It Be's single mix for it's album boxset along with Don't Let Me Down which both were on the 2015 1 set. I'll stick to streaming The Blue album on Amazon and Tidal, it's not worth buying it on release for me and I'll set my priority to Red due to having more new material that hasn't been mixed before, besides the Help and Rubber Soul tracks but those were just slight enhancements of the original stereo mixes back when they were remixed by George Martin in 1987 that masked the hard panning the was a 4-track mix artifact, so they deserve the Revolver remix treatment that will bring those tracks in true modern stereo. These are just my opinions feel free to agree or disagree with me.

True... I mean they DID work on the 2017 - 2022 remixes in modern state of the art circumstances and Giles and Sam spent what they thought was sufficient time on them. Ballad of John & Yoko & Old Brown Shoe SHOULD have been on the Abbey Road remix.. would it have killed them to add even a few more songs there. Mind You.. SEVEN Rubber Soul songs are on this compilation. Hell.. why not just put out Rubber Soul alongside it... The pricing on this box and single is so excessive they might as well give SOME fans a break here! Why keep us hanging on to pay you another $100 bucks next year.... fold the release into this year and let us out for 65 or 70 bucks on Rubber Soul too while you soak the casuals on that "Now & Then" single for $22 BUCKS!!!!

The Red and Blue sets SHOULD have the Capitol-era changes, adding the John Barry intro (originally on the single, the US release of Help! and the Red album), the false-start version of I've Just Seen a Face, and the kick-drum-ending to Get Back, at the top of the list.

I love vinyl releases and have always preferred them to the CD ones. But after buying the 2021 All Things Must Pass Remix vinyl box along with its Deluxe CD box replica I found it wasn't necessary having the big vinyl edition I just don't want to play because constantlyv turning over the records sides is such a bore. This one new release seems to me quite nice in its CD format. I don't like the new bonus track to be put on separate records on the vinyl release. So I think this time I'm gonna pass on the vinyl version... maybe... 😊

TJR, you know in the end you’re buying it! The 2023 mix of Revolution and I am the walrus is worth the price of admission alone. Also, how can you give an honest genuine review without actually owning the sets. You will definitely cave in…
@TJRtheOriginal Жыл бұрын
I can listen to them on streaming and still honestly speak to the remixes themselves.
@girlswanted7 Жыл бұрын
@@TJRtheOriginalThat is true and on Amazon there is Ultra HD which is higher than CD quality (supposedly). I enjoy streaming, but physical media is a completely different experience. Your rationale for purchasing Past Masters makes sense because it not only includes the singles on Red/Blue, but B Sides not on Red/Blue. That being said it’s about when, not if you get the Red/Blue boxes. I assume you want the new and improved artwork (essays etc). You also are a Beatles fanatic (like me) but more importantly have a You Tube channel. I enjoy your reviews and hope you are able to make this purchase! Streaming is great, but we don’t actually own the music and have to continue to pay month and after month! I’m definitely not buying the single as I don’t see a point especially because it isn’t being released on CD.

I was going to buy both CDs Red and Blue but reading the track listing I am not going buying ethier. I find it really annoying that Real Love and Free as Bird are not included they are both hit singles both top ten hits for god sake so why not include them. IIt wouldn't have taken much they could have just lifted the Remixed versions from the Beatles +1 album I would have bought the CD version of now and then but guess what there isn't one surely a slip up there. I would put it past The Beatles to release a singles box set in a few years time.

I'm going to pass on buying the new single. I am curious as to what the finished product will sound like though. The Red and Blue albums sound interesting. I had those on vinyl, when they were first released.

Adjusted for Uk inflation the original uk red and blue albums would be £57. That was foe double albums, these are triple albums so it looks like the prices are comparable to each other.

Now and Then will probably stink just like Real Love and Free as Bird did. This nonsense of the others working on a Lennon Demo that was unreleased and calling it a new Beatles song has got to stop. This kind of nonsense only detracts from the Beatles legacy. But people at Apple 🍏 probably need new product to sell and promote to create some excitement. Talk about flogging a dead Horse! Give me a Break! Now and Then the Beatles lay an Egg!
@briancunningham3155 Жыл бұрын
For the life of me, I cannot understand why "Now and Then" is being released on 7" vinyl and CASSETTE! I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of us haven't had a cassette player in many years. It sounds as of they're forcing us to purchase the blue album which I had no intention of buying.
@briangonigal3974 Жыл бұрын
I think the cassette release is pure novelty, probably a nod to the cassette tape that the original Lennon demo was recorded on. If the renderings of the cassette single are accurate, the cassette is made up to look like a blank tape like those that you would buy to record your own stuff on, with a “blank” label with the title “Now And Then” written on it as if with a marker pen. Most likely 90% of the people who buy the cassette single won’t even own a machine to play it on.

I'm excited and pre ordered the red and blue albums. The vinyl single and cassette which is a great touch as Lennon had the track on cassette. Many people can afford the prices some can't is it fair ? Life ain't fair tbh so let's just enjoy we have choice in our part of the world 🌍🌎 and hope "wars are over" soon. ✌️🙏

Great overview, as many been a diehard fan as long as I can remember. My thoughts 1, on the fence about covers being on there 2, £20 for a single is mental! 3, where the hell is “Rain” that’s the elephant in the room for me.

If you’re willing to buy Rubber Soul why would you not buy this? It has over 20 songs with the 2023 new mixes. I guess the outtakes but.. You’ll cave.. lol Even if you buy all the albums for future remixes it won’t have Revolution and other singles exclusive to this set.
@TJRtheOriginal Жыл бұрын
Because I know that the others albums and past masters will eventually all get released in remixed form and I will get those tracks that I don’t have, then. In the meantime, streaming will be fine......But “if” I find a good deal on these sets, I might still pick them up. I just have no plans to pre order or get them in the near future.
@girlswanted7 Жыл бұрын
I can’t see them releasing past masters as it’ll be too redundant. Maybe you’re right, who knows 🤷🏻♂️. But it’s like buying a Beatles book. I want the additional artwork, essays, pictures, etc. For each release that is.
@sunshinecoolwater9528 Жыл бұрын
I'm excited to hear the single, but I'm not going to purchase all the variants of what's being released. Apple and especially McCartney's last few solo releases, have really taken advantage of the fans. Collecting Beatles and solo releases will bankrupt many fans.

Well, I am commenting on this before reacting to Hackney Diamonds, mainly because I am still formulating a take on the new Stones music. However, I am no stranger to the Red and Blue albums, as they were (as for many people in my age group), my first introduction to The Beatles. And the suddenly unearthed "new" song not withstanding, I consider this redux of the Red and Blue albums a complete and total waste. And that's not a comment on the music itself which I love, but on this constant revamping, with no real ends in mind, short of, once again, juicing the catalog with more "heritage" releases, in the name of snazzing up the marketplace with one more chunk for the completists to add to the library. Clearly a coffee table release, I do not see any interesting or dynamic or insightful reason to plump up these old compilations with a bunch of songs that didn't make the original sets. I don't get it. The Red and Blue albums were not meant to be some definitive for-the-vault edition, but were very much a product of their times--excellent best of's, featuring many of their most popular songs and a great chunk of superb album tracks. What's the point of loading them up with all of these other songs? Basically, they've just created another compilation and call it the Red And Blue album. I've often thought these sets were on par with, say the Hot Rocks sets for the Stones (they were even released in the same year). People have criticized Hot Rocks because it ignores their psychedelic output, and isn't deep enough. But for a two record best of, it still stands to me as perhaps the Stones greatest comp because of its compactness. More Hot Rocks picked up the slack, with psychedelia, early blues and deep cuts. I wouldn't change a track, and if you did, you'd just be releasing London Years....or 40 Licks....or Grrrr. I mean, just do another compilation if you want all these other tunes on it. And, quite frankly, I think, say Dear Prudence and Glass Onion are so quintessentially White Album, they are best discovered and experienced as album tracks, not as a highlight on a comp. And I could say the same about others....The issue of the remix is something else, but just from the standpoint of a redux, I think its a waste.

I'm not excited about a mediocre song getting the AI treatment and won't be forking over my hard earned money on yet another re-release.Until Carnival Of Light is finally released, I just don't give a damn.

The cover art of the single is hideous. I thought it was a temp image until the release date and it would then be revealed. (I’m still holding out a bit of hope that’s the case. The vinyl is way too expensive and they didn’t even include Real Love and Free as a Bird. Those could have benefited with a fresh remix as well. I’ll be looking on Discogs in about 6 months or an Amazon discounted price. Screw getting the colored vinyl from the Beatles store. They’re tacking on an extra $15 to ship pushing the final cost to over $200 with tax and freight. I’ve purchased all the new releases in the past several years via preorder. Not this time. This just feels like a cash grab.

I am a Beatlesfan for more than 45 years, a little obsessed maybe. But what a disappointment. What do we get? One new song Remixes from we which we already have more than half. And a film on KZbin. That's it. The Stones did a release. A show, a good setting, a presentation with Jimmy Fallon. And what do we get? A little more than nothing!!! This is the worst Beatles release in years
@LanceHall Жыл бұрын
So they are recycling many of the SDE remixes that sound little like the originals and are now replacing the originals. Talk about lazy and disrespectful. Every track should have gotten fresh remixes that more reflect the original mixes not the horrible bloated digital messes Giles cooked up.

The Shining is incredibly overrated as a film. It’s because it’s Kubrick and Nicholson and Stephen King. There’s nothing scary about a big hotel in winter unless your out in the cold without a jacket freezing to death. That’s a scary notion. Otherwise the film is dull. And Kubrick is one of the great directors but not this one. It’s a swing and a miss!
