In this song it is said that George played the bass, in several sources it says that it was Paul, in others and in an interview that was done with Harrison, he declared that he was the one who played the bass in this song, that's why the inclusion jazz bass

Always loved this song, thanks for this great vid. As far as the question "who played the bass" is concerned, this is what happened (as I understand it): George recorded a demo (Anthology 3) of this song playing all the instruments and inventing the bass-line. When the Beatles later recorded the song he laid down the line on guitar with Paul doubling him on bass. (They did the same thing on "Drive my car", when George "invented" * the guitar line and Paul doubled it on bass). The confusion comes from an interview done years later: The reporter asked George about the song and remarked "and it sounds like McCartney is going nuts on bass again." to which George replied: "That was me. That's me going nuts." That was always interpreted as him saying "I played the bass" but I think he didn't mean it literally, just that it was his line. * George himself always said he kinda nicked the line from the Otis Redding song "Respect"

In regards to the George quote, it goes on to him saying "I'm doing exactly what I do on the guitar" wouldn't make sense for him to say it like that if he wasn't playing the bass as well

@@alexlee6847 note to self: "research your quotes before you post on yt." You're absolutely right of course, I just reread it. But then again, in the same interview he says that he played bass on "Bungalow Bill" - when many sources claim it was Paul - and that Paul played bass on "for you blue" - when there is in fact no bass at all on that song. I tried to offer some clarity and now I myself am even more confused than I could have ever hoped to be...

I think George was a huge fan of keyboards, All his solo stuff and most of his later Beatles songs used piano, electric piano, and organ. As an organ player myself, I love it 😊

First of all, great job on this song! Brilliant playing! But wait, there's more... Ahh, the age-old question: "Who Played Bass on Old Brown Shoe?" George has claimed that the "busy" bass stuff is him "going crazy" on the bass...that he in fact overdubbed Paul's original bass line. And to my ear, if you listen **very** closely, you can hear in one channel Paul's bass line still in there. It's very faint, but it's there. It's not nearly as inventive as what Paul would do on "Something" a couple of months later. Confusing! Paul and John may not have put much energy/effort into this "George song" - which has always been one of my favorite "Beatle" records. And...which is why it is also reported that, strangely, George completely wiped John's guitar part right off the finished track. A little bad blood between the lads at the time, perhaps? Did John say something dismissive or mean about this song? And did George go, "Oh yeah? We'll see about that!" I mean, the Beatles were totally into layering and multi-tracking instruments, so it's a little strange that George would **eliminate** John's solo and install another one. And you know, come to think of it, it doesn't even sound like Ringo on the drums! Sounds more like McCartney's way of playing them. Any way you slice it, OBS is a tremendous Beatle song that should have been a much bigger hit.

In the Abbey Road 50th box set it was stated that Paul was on drums, so the bass may have been George unless it was overdubbed.

Don’t care what that says. That is 100% Ringo on drums. Paul literally stated that he can’t play a shuffle.

I don’t always trust George’s recollections. In that same interview, he said that he played the bass on Bungalow Bill when it’s very clearly Paul, and that Paul played the bass on For You Blue when there is no bass on it.
