Nice drumming! I agree it's an underrated Beatles song. I think of Rain and Paperback writer as part of Revolver. Kinda like Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane were really the beginning of Sgt. Pepper. All released as singles right before the album releases. Anyways, nice feel and drum sound.

Are you left handed? I'm a lefty but play with my kit set up for right handed. Over the years, I've played with different people who did Beatles covers and they always called me Ringo by the first break. I didn't realize he was left handed until years later, then realized why it was so "easy", or natural for me to play Beatles covers. Honestly, I had to teach myself how to play right handed as I thought that was the proper way a kit should be set up! Who knows, maybe I could of been a contender had I set it up to play left handed...
@davidmontis7259
@davidmontis7259 2 жыл бұрын
I am in fact right handed. When playing other songs, I tend to play like how a right handed person would play, but when playing Beatles songs, I try to lead more with my left hand to try and get that signature Ringo style. If that make sense.

Ringo said this was his best performance. Those that think otherwise need to remember that the final version of "Rain" is slowed down for the effect, so not only did Ringo incorporate this incredibly unique drumming style, but he had to do it like 5x faster (listen to take 5 of "rain" and you'll know what I mean), and he did it perfectly.
@davidmontis7259
@davidmontis7259 2 жыл бұрын
Correct. I was amazed when I heard how fast “Rain” was originally recorded. I knew it was slowed down, but the original speed is crazy. It’s even faster than what has been heard on bootlegs. It’s also great to hear the fills that you do not hear in the outro because of the song’s fade out. Ringo’s best performance! Thanks for commenting!

Just came across this video. I,m not a drummer but a bassist. I like the bit where Ringo does a fill and barely makes it back in time. 0.44. Did you know that this song was originally recorded in the key of A with a faster tempo? and slowed down to G? - It seems tricky enough at this speed.
@davidmontis7259

Thanks for checking this video out! Yes that fill is rather challenging one and it definitely took a long time to figure out and many attempts to execute it. @@davidmontis7259 yeah definitely! There's been some contention about whether it's the correct speed. I think it is apart from the bass. I just think the bass was recorded on a seperate track at the slower speed as it's the only instrument that sounds off tonally. Plus the count in sounds right in pitch! Would be interesting to see you attempt it though...
