Very nice. Thank you for your well-communicated enthusiasm for the Beatles. For people that lived through it, no amount of praise for them during those times is too much, and never gets old. The world sat up and took notice of them when they first appeared in 1963, and it has really never ended. What they gave to the world was simply astounding, and of course, will never be equaled. Just the fact that those four individuals met, formed a band, and did everything they did in only about eight short years, was not only impressive, but it seems like it would have been impossible for it to have happened by chance. That relatively brief period of history was truly magical.

I just read your comment again. It’s equally miraculous they ended up with George Martin as producer. It was a match made in heaven. Not too mention Richard Lester directing their first two films. With the Beatles the more you learn the more astonishing their story becomes.
@pocopico74095 ай бұрын
@@JonBlackstone: Oh yes, I agree. George Martin was a huge reason for their success and the “magic“ of the Beatles overall. Richard Lester, too! It was just amazing how it all came together…like perfect ingredients to the Beatles recipe. I never thought Martin got enough credit, but then, he probably didn’t care. Martin’s instrumental contributions to the Beatles music alone were significant and noteworthy. It was often the difference between a song just being good or FANTASTIC! I think one of my favorites was from the “A Hard Day’s Night“ movie, when Ringo was walking around by himself with his camera…all forlorn. Martin did an instrumental version of “This Boy“ and titled it, “Ringo’s Theme“. It was an absolutely beautiful and unforgettable scene in the movie, and it was mainly due to pairing that unforgettable scene with Martin’s unforgettable instrumental music.

I have played drums for 55 years and I have never found anyone who could play like Ringo. One of the greatest session drummers in the 70s, Jim Keltner, was driven crazy to play like Ringo. Jim would say " it sounds like you need Ringo because you don't need me. Only Ringo can give you what you want. Ringo was a lefty that played right handed, and his approach was completely unique.

Very good analysis....but I've been enjoying their music since late 63 and one argument that I always bring is : 1. Hits and catchy tunes are necessary...after some time don't like them so much. 2. Being so " primitive " as he said he was..John came up with wonderful stuff nobody talks about( rhythm guitar in All my loving..clavioline in Baby you're a rich man..the guitar part in Oh darling...his solos parts in The end...etc..etc..etc...).. and songs like Walrus or strawberry fields and I want you. Nowadays is about Paul..Paul..Paul... I can understand why.... but I'd rather listen to Don't let me down or Revolution #9... than to Maxwell's silver hammer or Obladi oblada.( coming from a music " god".)...which I can't. My favorite songs from Abbey Road are John's. Come together..I want you..Because.

One of the greatest album reviews of one of the greatest albums in music history. Brilliantly researched & beautifully presented, with wonderful photos & videos of the boys in the studio working on their masterpiece. I especially loved the isolation of guitar, bass, drum & vocal tracks, so we could hear the brilliance of the parts which contributed to the beauty of each song. I saw The Beatles in Sydney in 1964, researched their music extensively and taught Beatlemania at university for many years ... but I discovered so much from your spectacular review. I saved my allowance, I bought it in the record section of our local department store. I didn't have a proper hi-fi (stereo), back then. I had a record player that my cousin gave me. I put this album on and died. It was pure magic then. AND....when I got to the end and then Her Majesty came on I FREAKED! They didn't have that track listed on the cover back then. I have gone through a dozen vinyl copies of Abbey Road throughout the years since then. It stirs so much wistfulness, happiness and sadness when I hear it. I ALWAYS tear up at the end. It's such a beautiful piece of music that will last the ages, long after we're gone. A truly awe inspiring masterpiece. I truly believe...that if people are still around in a few hundred years, that they will be pulling Abbey Road out and playing it like we play Beethoven, Bach or any of the old masters. "The Beatles" continue to outsell everyone else. I was 15 when they hit the US -- at #1. 99 per cent of people I knew either disparaged or didn't have a decision. I dug them "immediately" -- I'd heard their music on Chicago radio in October, 1963, and heard "I Want to Hold Your Hand" increasingly played on New York and other stations in November-December, 1963. They booked it -- and everyone else chased but never caught them. They never peaked; they evolved and grew until they broke up. There is "The Beatles". And there is everyone else. So I was right all along.

I'm still not entirely sold on it and it's just incredible if true because it has Paul's signature all over it. The precision with which it is played doesn't seem like it was something George could have come up with or played that perfectly. I'll say, if it is true, Paul absolutely showed him exactly what to play :)

It’s interesting that you say that. There are other tracks that George or John played bass on and they always did an excellent job. One of my favorite George Harrison bass parts is on “two of us”. He’s playing that Fender six string bass and the line George created for it is amazing. It’s so unique and absolutely propels the song. Thanks for your great comments and thank you for watching!

I will be saving this video to watch many many more times. Besides your beautiful analysis, hearing the separate isolated tracks is what I live for! I am always trying to listen to every instrument at the same time, and am frustrated when my brain won’t let me. 😂 Because each part of each track is masterful. As you said, they were all on fire, top of their game. This is why, though I know the “musicians” and “true fans” will often list Revolver as their best, I gave in and admitted years ago that my favourite is Abbey Road. Every other album has off songs, or by-the-number songs. Songs I will skip more often than not. Not Abbey Road. If even one song from it comes up on my shuffled playlist, I will turn off the shuffle feature to make sure I am listening to the album in order, all the way to the end. It sounds so wrong any other way. Thank you for this in-depth listen! ❤

Without question my favorite Beatles record ever and the most unusual Beatles record, in my opinion. You did a masterful job with this review and have added layers upon layers of details that I’ve never heard. I’ve gone thru numerous pressings of this album, I’ll have to look for the 2019 version. Will be playing this today. 😊

OUTSTANDING. I'm a lifelong Beatles fan. Learned to play guitar as a kid and in my 60's, still at it, in bands - all thanks to these 4. Tom Petty said it best: "There was the Beatles, and there was everyone else." Unmatched. Without peers. The best band doing the best album at the height of their powers. None of them yet 30.

My brother plays in a few bands locally. One is a Jethro Tull cover band and they do the album Thick as a Brick. But the other band plays a variety of hits. I went to see them, and the did the Medley side. I was blown away. I guess i never expected to hear that stuff live. Just thrilled, though. Kick a$$ stuff, Jon. Really. You'll have your fans dining on an old favorite, tasting it better than the first time. That is an accomplishment.

@@JonBlackstone Whoah ! Talking about synchronicity ! It’s 1am in my little town in the south of France and I was watching another video of yours ( recording with Dee and Nigel) when I saw your kind words ! A few minutes earlier I was thinking how great it would be if you lived around the corner as I could share some great music stories with you ! I was on tour with Van Halen in 81 for a couple days as a guest of Dave lee Roth but this was meeting a young Edward that stuck in my mind and listening your stories reminded me of how I had to pinch myself a few times the same way you did with Dee ! You are a good story teller and once again thank you for sharing all this with us !!!! Dom Rider

Hello Jon. Thanks for a wonderful video.( I just subscribed ) Your analysis of the Beatles was so perfect and I agree with virtually everything said. From the insanity of " the Beatles are over-rated" crowd to your pointing out dozens of terrific Beatles moments , so many to mention. Thanks for the Ringo critique and his rightly-deserved praise. And when you think of the individual songs on Abbey Road, you have to be amazed, as you are literally staring in the face of genius. George Martin's touch with an orchestral arrangement. The vocal harmonies...stunning. I could go on. But anyway, I'll end by saying I have loved everything about the Beatles since I saw them as a little boy on the Ed Sullivan show. And amazingly enough I can listen to their music today and it brings a smile to my face. SO how about a video similar to this on the White album? To quote Paul "that would be something"

I was a big Beatles fan as were my school mates. We knew Beatles were releasing Abbey Road, none of us had heard it!! I said to the class I would go to the big record store near us and buy a copy for anyone interested. So I had 17 of my school mates cash to purchase Abbey Road on day of release only to be told they didn’t have it yet! What a disappointment, the recorded store was so so apologetic and said the 24:01 y would do everything to get it the next day. They did and traveled to London distributing record depot to get a huge supply. It was a big earner for the record store, the manager said it’s amazing the faith the Beatles fans have and the band never let them down always a superb album. You could completely rely on them.

Excellent review of The Abbey Road Album, I´ve never heard someone being so accurate in its describing. The sign of Abbey Road no longer exists, maybe it was taken out because being so close to residential flats caused extreme noise in the neighbourhood as people will bang it as a drum causing great distress

I've only just found your videos... I am currently reading Barry Miles' "Many Years From Now," which inevitably makes me want to hear the songs, and although I believe my Beatles' vinyl collection is fairly complete, and I have many Beatles CD's, it's just not easy to play them, nowadays. So, to KZbin I came. So glad I did! I didn't think it would be possible to appreciate the Beatles any more than I already did, but your videos have done so! I find your enthusiasm quite catching, and your lavish tutelage is amazingly eye-opening! Thank you so much for sharing! (And yes, I am another brought to tears by this!)

I can still vividly remember in 1962 when the Beatles first appeared on television in the UK, singing Love Me Do. I was only 6 years old, and my brother was 8, but that night we both became lifelong Beatles fans, we are now 68 and 70 years old respectively. And of course, that night really launched the phenomenon of Beatlemania. We have so many great memories of that very special time in our lives.

🙏 a lot for this episode!! In my opinion by far the best review of the album! Born in 1955 I witnessed their career consciously from 1965/66. Since then I’ve been a lifelong fan… So many people prefer Revolver, The White Album or Rubber Soul probably older productions. But when AR came out I was blown away from the first second of listening. The intro of Come Together sucked me (and still does) into the atmosphere of the entire album - forced to listen to The End. No skipping of Maxwell‘s ( Oh Darling wouldn’t be that peak without Maxwell before). Allowed to take only one album to the remote island - that would be the one. Love it so much ❤ Cheers Peter from Austria
