@@CiscoDuck Your Point is well taken, but listen to George's acoustic version of the song and you see it is a great song even without Eric or anybody else.
@CiscoDuck6 жыл бұрын
The acoustic version is basically a run through rather than a take to familiarize Paul & Ringo with the tune - John was not there that day. So it's little more than an in-studio demo. It doesn't compare to the issued take or the 2018 remix of the same take with the rest of the lads plus Eric. Certainly in it's rawest form whether the Esher demo or the acoustic version just released it's a brilliant song. My coment was based on the complete issued take and/or the 2018 remix. Eric certainly delivered the goods to put the tune over the top - which is exactly what George wanted EC to do. He didn't ask John or Paul to play lead and he didn't take on the job himself outside of playing counterpoint with Eric towards the end of Eric's bits - that's the two of them having a go together in a very like situation that Eric and Duane Allman would do on Layla a year or so later.

George was always a bit nervous about his music, according to George Martin. Apparently he was quite aware he was not the best songwriter in the band. Yet with this incredible tune he finally unfolded his wings and created a foundation for his future masterpieces, such as "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun". R.I.P legendary George Harrison, the most underrated and silent Beatle
@1978garfield2 жыл бұрын
He had to fight for studio time, fight to get his songs on the albums, fight to get to play on his songs when they are on the albums. (That's Paul's solo on "Taxman" becase George Martin thought George Harrison was "taking too long". I don't know how many times George Martin took a part from Paul or John for "taking too long" but I suspect it wasn't many, if ever. Somehow in those conditions he wrote this and Somthing along with all his other great Beatles songs not to mention most of All Things Must Past. I wish the Len-Mac machine could have realized what a song writing talent they had right under their noses.

@@1978garfieldacting like George was treated as a 'second class' beatle is ridiculous, Paul and John treated George with the utmost respect and encouraged him to record and play his songs despite George's own hesitance, it is ludicrous to suggest that George had to fight for recording time. Look at anywhere on the Get Back documentary and you'll see. And Paul and John both agreed George had some of the best songs on Abbey Road, so don't think they didn't think he was an amazing songwriter. Sorry if this was slightly aggressive, just the story that George had to fight the other beatles for recording time is blatantly wrong, and was made up during the nasty break up.
@johntechwriter Жыл бұрын
@@Mysterx1440 I think John’s musical creativity was not George’s equal. John’s songwriting was very uneven. For every classic like Imagine he cranked out a half dozen mediocrities. (I Am the Walrus, Happiness is a warm gun) And, the political themes in his songs were naïve and negative, and repetitively populist (Give Peace a Chance). George’s contribution was to infuse the Beatles with spirituality. It was a humanistic take on the subject, his theme being we all need each other to get through this life, rather than be saved by some divine intervention. George gave us Here Comes the Sun, My Sweet Lord, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Something. Had the Beatles never formed, I think George would have done all right on his own. John thought himself a genius, and as the French say, he who loves himself will have no rival. (Paul, the beating heart of the Beatles, would have been a superstar like Brian Wilson or Elton John.)

This song is so nice, I want to ride a gondola and say "Venice is so beautiful". Then, some bespectacled guy with a swirly hairdo started freezing the canal for no reason.

This was one of the first Beatles songs that I really remember well. I did know "yellow submarine" and "Octupusses guarden" before that but "while my guitar gently weeps" was one of two Beatles songs we sang in Music class in 8th grade. Ever since then I wanted to learn more about them and 2020 was the Year. So thank you Mr. Wanke for forceing some great Culture into our dumb Teenage Brains. You were the best Music Teacher ever.

fun fact for all the jjba fans in this comment section: the localized version of ghiaccio’s stand is called “white ice” which is derived from the original “white album”, referencing the beatles’ self titled album released in 1968. it makes sense that they would change it, until you realize that the beatles did not copyright “white album” and it was a fanmade title. on a slight side note, it gets a bit hypocritical when you realize that ghiaccio uses an externally sourced name to name his stand when he was also complaining about externally sourced names (v*nice) p.s. i am not here because of jjba, ive always loved this song and ghiaccio’s stand namesake is the reason why hes my fave lol

I love the new mixes. I feel like this is how the Beatles / Martin may have mixed them if they recorded them today. For example, this mix lets you hear so many more elements that were always there, but somewhat buried in the mix. You can really hear the guitar “weeping” in more clarity.
@victorhugotoledocofre13666 жыл бұрын
Maybe I'm becoming deaf, but after carefully back-to-back listening of both 2009 and 2018 remasters, what's the big improvement apart from, say, the uncentered, quieter drums and ghostly vocals in this one versus de clearer, crispier and closer-to-the-original 2009 mix?

The song is incredible from start to finish, but it's the beginning that draws you in: the piano and the bass in the first few seconds are magnetic, they hold you captive... that intro sounds so crisp and satisfying, it's irresistible and you just _have_ to keep listening. I'm not sure this makes much sense but honestly, conveying the feeling that one gets from a Beatles song is nearly impossible.
