Hi Orlan. For most Beatles songs or classic rock/pop songs would you recommend using a soprano or alto recorder to play only the melody?

As an interested bystander, I would recommend whichever recorder sounds best to you. Some like the higher sound of the soprano while others like the mellow tones of the alto. Honestly, either one will probably require some transposition on some songs, but the music for the soprano is written lower than the alto so it might be easier to find music that doesn't need to be transposed, but the alto can also be played with the same fingering as the soprano and will sound fine, but a fifth lower than written. So just go for the sound you like.

wow, that is amazing. I'm used to only hearing the recorder to play squeaky/purposefully bad music, it's so refreshing to hear someone play it really well. I didn't even know there were recorders for lower pitches, very cool. For some reason the harmony made me think of the "Cara Mia" Turrent Opera from Portal 2.

Ah yes, the challenge of finding enough skilled recorder players to play 4-part music, I know it well. I should try something like this myself - in my city of 250,000 people, I doubt there are 4 people who could play well enough to perform this piece. Well done, though - your tuning and articulation are excellent.
