During the summer it is possible to continue from the railway station called Tirano RhB (although it is in Italy it is considered Swiss territory) towards Lugano with a red RhB bus waiting for the Bernina Express. It is included in the Swiss Travel Pass, Eurailpass, InterRail pass and similar. Only the seat reservation is extra.

Tirano is no way considered Swiss territory. It is included in the swiss network of the Bernina Express, just that.

@@mikatu Since you're such a know-it-all, write a letter to the director general of the customs agency (Italian, of course) telling him that the customs agency made a serious mistake in placing the customs gate at the entrance/exit to/from the station . Furthermore, file or send a complaint to the director general of the revenue agency telling him that Swiss VAT is applied at that station instead of Italian VAT, resulting in tax evasion of taxes, duties and other taxes!

Clarification: the RhB summer bus that connects Tirano with Lugano, also called "BERNINA EXPRESS", awaits the BERNINA EXPRESS train coming from Chur. For the other BERNINA EXPRESS trains departing from St Moritz there is no continuation by bus from Tirano to Lugano, except for what concerns the train which leaves St Moritz at 9.17 am for which however it is necessary to wait for almost 3 hours before the arrival in Tirano of the BERNINA EXPRESS coming from Chur. There is plenty of time to taste an excellent plate of pizzoccheri from Valtellina, accompanied by a glass of red wine from Valtellina (Sassella, Inferno etc.).
