I am an Amateur Bird and Insect photographer and vlogger based in South Staffordshire.
10 Years ago I first went to the Isle of Mull and now I am returning for a three day trip. While I did capture some nice images, the images I really wanted eluded me, the Eagles, Harriers and Otter. I was luck enough to capture an image of a short eared Owl though. Three days just wasn't enough and neither was my 100-400 zoom lens as I did struggle at times, especially with the video clips, they are quite unstable at times and not always in focus.
I will return again though to this wonderful Isle as I am hooked.

Nice video Rich. I was on Mull a couple of weeks before you, it is a special place. I find the 2x converter very poor for photographs but quite good on video so only use when filming now. What a treat to see the Golden & White-tailed Eagles together, super stuff.

Thanks Stewart. It was special, I never even realised until I watched the video back but what an amazing place 👍

Hi Rich, great to see you out and about, love the video. I have 5D4 and 100-400mm with 1.4 extender which is a great bit of kit but still a bit short a lot of the time. I also have a 500 F4 MK2 which I bought second hand ( still cost an arm and a leg ) best lens I’ve ever owned, combined with 1.4 extender it doesn’t loose any picture quality in my opinion but when I put 2x extender on It’s a different story. Look forward to your next video. 👍

Thanks Chris, I agree it’s a great setup but I am looking to move to the R5 and eventually the f4 500mm when finances allow

@@RRNaturePhotography Hi Rich, yes R5 with 45 megapixels will allow more cropping for a start, it’s definitely the way to go , but it’s so expensive. I’m saving up for it but it’s going to take me a long time, probably be an R5 mk 2 bye then 😁

Hi Richy I was in similar situation but on Sky birds were very few but I did get an otter and yes 3 out of 3 days of rain and saw a low flying eagle while driving on the way of the island ,so I do commiserate with you.

Great vlog Rich & some lovely images too. We were on Mull for 4 days a couple of weeks after your visit, stunning island & we’re going back for a longer visit next year. Dad & I did find some of the Otters that Mull is famous for, but it was a lot of walking, a lot of searching & two tired photographers. Worth it to see a Mother & her two pups feeding on eels & crabs though. Thanks for sharing, I’ve now subscribed to your channel. Best, Nick

might be worth picking up a sigma 150-600mm, the native 600mm will be better than 400 with x2 supprised you cant AF with the x2, i had two x2 canon III extenders stacked with the sigma 150-600mm c on my M50 and it AF on jupiter perfectly fine, alot slower with two of them but with one it was good af in daylight, prefer it with native 600mm, over that you can get atmospheric heat hazes etc sometimes 150-600mm c is around £700-800 uk, you may prefer the sport version for the better weather sealing, image wise they are near identical great to see you having a great time saw some buzzards and red kites for the first time also a male black redstart, all from north london Interesting veiw point on the M50 as its similar to a couple of other pro wildlifers, i been using mine for 2 1/2 years and i got it down to pretty good, also found a 50-150mm ƒ2.8 sigma EX APO OS on ebay in brand new condition which i got for darker forest areas, very nice short to medium range lens cant wait to see how a better camera performs after only using the M50, its a waiting game to see what canons next move is in the crop sensor camera playground i do love the efm lenses for compact carry,

I agree with Laura (i'm guessing that by username) I had the sigma 150-600, great lens for the price! I moved to sony and used it for a while before moving to native sony glass. I also have a 2xiii that i'm going to trade in to pick up a sony 1.4x

Hi , some interesting thoughts there , thanks. I have owned the Tamron 150-600 in the past and while it is a great lens, I went back to the Canon L series eventually. I’m looking to upgrade to the R5 next then hopefully a f4 500mm but that’s a way off. I only bought the M50 for vlogging really and haven’t tried it for photos that much but might give it a second chance

@@RRNaturePhotography I used to use an m50 for vlogging, was great but I sold it during lockdown and now will use my a7iii. I did like the sigma 150-600 but really happy with the sony 200 -600 now.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. After Mull I was not happy with my 5Dmk4 so when the R7 was announced it looked like a perfect replacement. Had to sell the 5D to fund it though. Problem was there was no stock and after waiting a few months on order, life kicked in and I had to use the money for More important things. Had to cancel My order so now I have no camera body and don’t have the funds to buy one at the moment. Very frustrating but hope to get back to it when I can afford it. Thanks for asking though 👍
