The beautiful monastery above Ozeros lake

In the area of ​​Ligovici there is the historic Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin.
Perched on the mountain in a beautiful natural landscape and overlooking the lakes of Ozero and Amvrakia, the monastery of Panagia of "Ligovitsana" is able to excite the visitor.
The historical significance of the Monastery is important, since it played an important role during the Revolution of 1821, serving as a refuge and a base for Karaiskakis and the other Greek freedom fighters.
The monastery continues to occupy its despotic position at the top of the hill where many pilgrims visit it from all over Greece.
It strengthens, consoles, and supports the Christians of the wider region, who appeal to the Virgin Mary, beggars and pilgrims. The sisters also deal with hagiography, sacerdotal and spiritual ministry.
After our visit to the monastery, we continue the small road trip, making a stop in the Sacred City of Mesolongi with its long history.

There seems to be a lot of Monasteries in Greece. The drive there is so peaceful and beautiful. I love how empty the roads are, I think you caught one person speeding though 😉.
