You know, at 11:10, I can’t help but point out a thing i haven’t seen anyone else point out . In the Chimera ant art, there are actual reference to real life photos they use as a reference for how they juxtapose humanity. One of them is a picture (shot by Eddie Adams) of a distressed Vietnamese man (Nguyen Van Lem) getting shot/having a gun to the head by an army cadet during the chaos of the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam war. It’s a famous photo along side others of the series and while it was very brief during the speech about the cruelty of humanity , I saw it in the anime at 12 I was really taken aback by it and really sad. The arc truly was a mirror and critique of humanity and our reality indeed.

I’m literally the same and this anime changed my life as well. Watched it at 12 but then it became pay to watch (I think) on youtube I had saw the panel with something that was similar to “the world is mine to destroy” or “ the world is to be destroyed” With disturbing human acts in the background. Ending songs 2 and 5/6 are really inspiring as well.

What's funny is HxH was completely unexpected for me, I started watching it on a whim because I thought it was about dudes hunting monsters like Monster Hunter and for some reason that's what was on my mind. I never got spoiled as to what it was or who wrote it so I was actually disappointed when I realized hunters weren't just big game monster hunters. Then I just kept watching and it uh became my favorite anime and manga series of all time so that was unexpected

never read or seen hxh, but it's one of my oldest brother's favorites. my brother introduced me to another series of Togashi's, Yu Yu Hakusho. i watched all 100+ episodes and absolutely loved it. i loved how the series started out with practically no blood, but as it went on it started to get darker and darker. each arc was captivating, each character was likeable (i might even say loveable - especially Kurama for obvious reasons...i'm a teenage girl let me simp over pretty boys ok) and i just loved the valuable messages it taught. if anything, this video makes me want to watch some of hunterxhunter too. i bet it's just as great

DISCLAIMER/CORRECTIONS: Togashi does have assistsants but based on a report, he does not overburden them with too much of his own work this rendering part of their jobs null as he places more work on himself, for whatever reason. I misspoke and did not elaborate. 2. Yes Leorio becomes a doctor to help those who can’t afford healthcare I put an asterisk “Among other reasons” for the sake of brevity and because I wanted to highlight people’s reasons for becoming hunters can be shallow and he does at first want only money when we first meet him, seeing him later do it for genuine reasons also shows the dualities of those who choose to become hunters. No diss to Leorio he is chad.

Probably one of the best if not the best shonen manga of all time, topped maybe by only Dragonball and Ashita no Joe, for me. The way the story evolves from a classic battle-centered coming of age manga to a psychological and philosophical thesis on many aspects of the human mind and moral is outstanding. The variety of tropes is remarkable: it goes from a Battle-royale exam to a rescue mission, to a tournament arc, passing through a trading-card-game-based isekai, then an horror survival zombie-like story, a political arc, and then an expedition during a war for dynastic succession. The writing of the world and characters blow me away, everything is coherent with the laws and rules of the universe Togashi created. He depicts a world ruled by fantastic elements but creepily similar to ours anyway: on one side colorful, idilliac and magical, on the other full of atrocities and ruled by violence. Even the fights don't revolve around who is stronger phisically, but strategy and mind are the main focus to win, unlike lots of comics like this one. Togashi isn't even afraid of killing off important or beloved characters: if they make a mistake in battle you can bet that they will die or at least lose a limb with no plot-armor. Don't get me started on the art: even tho it's the most controversial point of this series, I find Togashi's composition, paneling and stylistic versatility to be the best in the industry even nowdays

Togashi makes such interesting villains. Hisoka added a pizzaz to the Hunter exam and the anime as a whole. Edit: There was also the clearing in the forest, which is where Gon officially meets him. Hisoka feels like an unpredictable force, and I misinterpreted why he let Gon live. I thought he realised that he almost killed a child, and that he has a rule of sorts. But no, he's saving Gon for later, like waiting for a baby chic to grow into a rooster for slaughter. Throughout the exam Hisoka proves he is a terminator when in action. We know for a fact that he isn't invincible, because he bleeds, but there's just the fact that we see so much and so little of him. This is before we even find out about nen, so we await the 'magic' that has yet to be revealed, and Hisoka is the example of that awaiting magic with his strange abilities that couldn't have been bungee gum (disappearing into dust and turning a man's arms into tiny flower petals). It was villains like these that kept me at the edge of my seat, besides from the other great protagonists. Excluding Meruem, we don't get villains trying to take over the world or be the best (like Homelander), but villains who are living an almost simple life. The Phantom Troupe steals just because (even though we understand that there's more to that 'just because'). Hisoka who likes fighting and killing strong people because it's how he gets off. Illumi who has a twisted view on the world thanks to his upbringing and how that effects his communication skills with his brother.

Everyone have their agenda & motives & everyone is subjected to pain & loss & everyone want the world to believe their narrative is absolute truth & people are opinionated about what they believe is true .. love to see it, i always enjoy when people talk about HxH's incredibly gritty look at the world for a battle shounen. It's such a small scene, but the one that shows the east gorteau dictator having long gone to safety and just happily smiling stuck with me more than i thought it would. Just gives you that feeling that the ant's are at worst a distraction from the far worse horrors that await and really the expedition team were sent into clean up a small mess in the bigger picture. The nihilistic undertones of the chimera ant arc is something I really appreciate because you just don't see it in many shounen, even if some people found it to be too long or depressing.
@kris11232599 ай бұрын
The ants are initially build up as this existential threat to humankind and by the end they were only rated the third on the catastrophe scale the Hunter Association uses. It really drives home the point that humans have been commiting attrocities against our kin for far longer than the ants, and they haven't even gotten the time to catch up to us.

I feel a lot of people don't point out Gon and Pitou's duality! The moment where Gon actually gets tilted by Pitou is when he asks her why she's healing Komugi and she responds "I need to heal her because she's special to someone who's dear to me" and in my interpretation Gon sees himself reflected on her and that's why he ends up losing control. Just as Pitou wants to heal Komugi for Meruem's sake, Gon wanted to heal Kite for Ging's sake (even though Ging never really cared). You can even see a parallel in how Pitou offers her arm in exchange for time to save Komugi. At that point of the show, Gon had already hurt or even lost his arm for his ideals, and ends up losing his arm again at the end of the arc Loved the video btw 💖💖💖✨ it was a great analysis 💖 keep up the good work

He is guided by his instinticts throught out the whole series, and his choices make him belive he was in the right, that he was human by the concepts of the new society he came across and by the concept of the people who created him (His aunt and great-grandma), but in that moment he sees himself nothing but in the wrongh, showing him the world is not as simple as "Follow what ur heart desire" (Btw im not affirming who was in the wrongh or right here, okay?), he desires to heal Kite, and he knows he needs to because is the right thing to do, right? Because he needs to do something after not being strong enought to protect him, right? But then why should he attack someone who's doing the same? How is that demonical thing being kind and protective over a weaker human? Why? How? Who? That type of complicated enigmas broked him in that firts part, and it implifes even more the Arcs theme, in my view, there's the concept of good and evil. Still i loved ur interpretation of it!! Is really diff and i didnt thought about it

Your reflections made me think about Togashi as a real person in way that I haven’t before. He is *very* skilled and creative, and I love the story he tells, but there is more to his life than just writing HxH. When you mentioned that he is “heading out into those dark waters again,” it clicked for me that writing is not an easy task - even when you’re healthy. I’m sure trying to uncover what’s next and get everything just right can be daunting even for him. I hope he lives a long and fulfilling life full of love and beauty.

I always thought its called hunter hunter because thats what gon is. His only reason to become a hunter is to track down ging who is another hunter so that makes gon a hunter hunter in contrast to ging(ruins hunter), morel(sea hunter), cheadle(disease hunter), the gourmet hunter from hunter exam, etc. Finding out that togashi loves gaki no tsukai is a huge welcome surprise.

WELL THAT WOULD BE TRICK, AHAHAHAHA!! But really, i cant think of another type of Hunter for Gon to be then a Hunter of Hunters

What I think is great about the dualities of desire is that they, like the characters, often have their own dualities. Gon wants to see his father, but for ultimately shallow reasons (Kite told me my dad was cool, so I want to be a hunter like him), while Leorio wants money, not because he’s greedy but because he wants to become a doctor so he can cure people like his friend

i like how leorio is a deep character diaguised as a shallow one. and how despite his obsession with money, he still has a good heart with good intentions.
@dragodraco75118 ай бұрын
Gon's reason wasn't shallow,he is like an innocent wild animal. He is curious and interested in anything that interests him,he has never seen his father,raised by his aunt in the mountains,and so when kite told his father was alive and is a hunter,he was interested in the fact that what makes being a hunter so amazing he left his son. As mentioned by everyone and is shown He gives a shit about good and bad to some extent

regarding Leorio: I thought he wanted money so he can become a doctor, not the other way around? his friend died of a treatable desease when he was a kid, because they didnt have the money to afford it. so Leorio wanted to become a doctor and help people for free, but he found that to become a doctor you need even more money. its also one of the earliest points the story really got me. I assumed already that there was more behind Leorio's shallow personality, but I didnt expect it to touch me so closely. maybe its because the problem Leorio describes and the trauma he endured isnt just some cookie cutter personal drama we all know from shonen anime, but instead a systemic injustice, that we are familiar with from our own world and that screws the lifes of so many people for no good reason. I cant stop talking about this series, nor do I want to stop, its just so compelling. if you take anything away from this series about our own world, I hope its not that humans are nasty and bad by nature, because hxh also shows the absolute beauty of humanity. what I take is that the systems people erect are unjust, because they benefit themselves and reflect their privileged ideology. like Netero. while I adore his character, he's not a good person, and he implemented a cruel system of his own design, that reflects his personal values and looks down upon those he deems unworthy. whereas killua teaches us how powerful and world changing compassion and friendship can be. the "passing of the torch of kindness" as described by Alekzandr's channel is something profoundly beautfiul. its about getting rid of corrupt and unjust systems and reach out to those who are like us and can be brothers and sisters and anything in between. much love to you all

This is such a bealtiful interpretation!! I always thought about how much HxH talks about the effects of love and kindness within his theme, and their contraparts, hate and cruelty, i loved the way u put this here. Humans are delicated beings, and i think HxH show us this with perfection

It took watching another analysis of Meruem's fight with Netero for me to realize the point about humans being no different from the ants. Originally my take was that Netero had resolve and Meruem was being naive and wish washy. Humanity would never accept his terms especially given the bloodeshed required. But I don't think that was Togashi's intent. I think he was making the point that Netero was a bloodknight like Hisoka and that he would have never reasoned with Meruem no matter what he proposed. Netero had convinced himself that Meruem was a threat and this was just the justification he needed to face the most powerful opponent he ever could to death.

That is really cool side and angle I wish I had more time to divulge, it really says a lot just about humanity :)

@@mugenbop it's really interesting how Toagashi flips the script on idealized characters. Gon and Ging get the same treatment. Especially in the first arc Gon's reckless behavior amd naiveté are portrayed positively and everyone who knows Ging praises him. But we see what Gon's behavior gets him. Ging is actually hated by most of the Association and called out for being an absent father. He even just looks like a disheveled hobo as opposed his implied handsome idealized appearance in flashbacks and such.

Your video summarizes almost every reason of why this series is so special to me and one of my all time pieces of fiction period. The way the characters are layered, the subversions that occur, and the contrast between the childlike wonder fantasy and the heavy adult themes all contribute to its uniqueness. And I absolutely agree with you about Togashi's approach to storytelling. He fearlessly breaks conventions and allows the story to unfold naturally based on the characters' motives, which adds an element of unpredictability while still making everything feel logical in retrospect. I can't get enough of it. Your video captures all of these aspects brilliantly. Keep up the amazing work.

Seeing some these beautiful panels again to hearing about Togashi issues again to the manner Mugen talks honestly made me tear up a bit. HxH is one of the greatest things I've ever read and I apperciate you for showing just how much detail and care Togashi put into his manga
