Only Tarkovsky can make a painter's biopic without showing the protagonist actually paint, and still make it interesting.

You see him paint once
@flaviomagnetto27034 жыл бұрын
He's not the only one who did it (cf Michel Angelo). Furthermore, Michel Ciment said that a film that shows you a painter painting or a sculptor sculpting is (generally) a bad movie. In the end, I really don't think that Tarkovski is the only one who can mke it. Even though m, he's my favorite film director and Andreï Rublev is masterpiece, one of the best film ever made.

One of the few films that should be tucked in a nuclear bunker for future generations to witness in case we all go BOOM. Frankly, I don't see this movie in one sitting. There are 8 chapters so I see one chapter a day, it really gives one time to meditate on that chapter throughout the day, really. I highly recommend it.

Tarkovsky's works are just so deep that you can't even express and explain it by words, but you feel it inside, you know it's there but you cannot let it out. You don't know what and how to feel. But deep inside it affects you on a deep emotional and spiritual level.

One of the greatest movies ever made, and one of the best at depicting the journey of the artist in regards to the larger environment they belong to. The personal angst of creation inside of Andrei is mirrored by large-scale acts of both creation (casting the bell) and destruction (Tatar invasion) that occurs all around him. I've never seen this inner-outer dynamic portrayed better in all of cinema.

A towering achievement from a masterful auteur. It shows the importance of the Orthodox church, and Icon artist Andrei Rublev to Russian history and culture. Something the very religious Tarkovsky held dear, and which caused much friction for him in the Soviet era.

There's only one little thing holding me back from watching this movie: animal cruelty... I'm sorry, but it's too tough for me. By knowing that an actual horse was mercylessly killed for this movie (I could have accepted its dead body or some editing tricks to make it look like it's being brutally killed while it's not) there's something in me that refuses to watch it. I know Tarkovskij was one of the greatest movie directors of all time, but man... I feel like he went too far with this one. And that's a shame, because it looks like a masterpiece.
