@jaby koay, Hi, I am on a marathon of your videos from 2 days and liking what I see... Here in India, we have quite a few superstitions... And I think, most of them have a very simple reason. Few examples being, 1. Broken mirror brings bad luck - Mirrors are probably the oldest article of glass humans are using and the type of glass used to make them always breaks in to sharp pieces and can cause serious injuries... So to ensure we dont break them or get rid of them immediatley. 2. Spilling salt - As you said, it was quite precious back then and also its hard to clean up and if we are wearing footwear, we may slip and fall. 3. Opening umbrella inside - Umbrella opens suddenly and spreads quite widely... So if opened inside home it will most probably knock over things. 4. Cutting nails inside - Cut nails have sharp edges and can hurt us if stepped on them... And can hurt us even more if it were to get mixed with food items and we were swallow it by mistake. And so on...

Actually superstition stems from scientific reasons that were prevelant in the era for example, 1. Don't sweep after dark, it's because in the old days there was no electricity, so you could sweep something expensive by mistake. 2. Don't walk under ladders, because someone might be standing on it , you going understand it might get you drenched with paint or.might disbalance the person on the ladder. 3. Don't cross roads from where four roads are meeting, traffic might come from all directions , might be dangerous for you . Ect and so on

I think the term evil eye or nazar came basically from the energy or triggers people had. I've been around people who straight up give me anxiety and as mental health was side eyed, people said nazar and then the myth grew into physical accidents/ illnesses too. Physical events also have PTSD, just saying. My personal view and I wanted to put it out there.

We had a Asoka tree in our house and my grandmother had this belief that if the tree grows above the house we are going to get doomed..she even quoted the story of rich family from our villlage who went bankrupt because the Asoka tree in their house grew over their house and put them under its shade which is a bad omen..to be frank i loved the fragrance of the red flowers on the tree and the tree itself gave good shade in summer..sadly the superstition was so deep rooted that our grandapa decided to cut it down as soon as it reached the roof height. We got saved from the evil grasp of the tree that day..so they believed. I don't know if the evil association has anything to do with the fact that Sita was kidnapped and hidden from her beloved husband Rama in Asoka vanam by asura king Ravana. She must have cursed the trees to bring bad luck to those who grow them in their garden.
@souravchaudhary25855 жыл бұрын
But that tree helped sita to stay away from sun's heat...Why would she curse tree ? I'm confused

@AnK11Morrison5 жыл бұрын
Interesting about red colour ink and pens. In India it is used to inform about passing away of a loved one. I was very young and writing with a red pen when my father made me not to write with it he just said it brings you bad luck. A few years later on returning from a vacation we received a letter informing us about passing away of my aunt(this was a pre internet era and we didn't even had a landline phone) I later asked my parents about red ink and they told me about how it is used to inform about death of someone. I use fountain pens and love red inks but, till day I do not use it to write anyone's name bar mine.

Indian superistions: 1. Don't cut your nails in the evening. 2. Never cut your hair on Saturdays and Tuesdays. 3. Don't carry pickle with you on a journey. 4. Never eat eggs before or during a journey. 5. Black shouldn't be worn on auspicious ocassions. 6. Women should never walk under a tree with untied hairs. Especially in the night. Ghosts catch them. 7. Never accept money on your left hand. 8. Never donate money with left hand. 9. Never throw utensils. 10. Never throw books. 11. Spilling of milk is a bad omen. Check out on all your family members for accidents or sudden deaths. 12. Never stop a person who is about to leave. They may never come back. (Bad omen, high chances of accident and death. Used in many movies, including Manikarnika where Kangana's son calls her from behind as she is leaving for the final battle). 13. When a black cat crosses the road, its a very bad omen. You may die if you keep going ahead on the same road.
