This episode is an amazing example of biting criticism of modern society's obsession with beauty standards but also how it uses those beauty standards to justify atrocities against people who don't meet them. Side note: Your short was so good! And your acting was amazing!

Twilight Zone wasn't just entertainment...it was an education of society during that time. Episode lesson is eye of the Beholder...what is 'ugly' to one person can be 'beautiful' to someone else.

Every year on New Years they do a Twilight Zone marathon, can’t recall the channel but that’s been my tradition regardless of channel. Every character, every line, every moral, every eerie feeling stays with you. The most quotable lines in horror history if not cinema history belong here, it’s referenced in everything. Actually the thing I recall it being referenced in the most is animated media, which side note would love to see you or anyone cover the animated Beetlejuice show from Canada!

My English teacher in Jr High showed us this movie on silent and asked us to write what was happening. We ended up having to watch it twice because a kid in my class was basically doing his own narration it in real time and it was the funniest shit. He told his own story and kept pace the whole time. The class couldn't stop laughing, including our teacher. Core memory for sure.

First off, in honor of you reaching 10k subscribers, I want to say how much I appreciate you and everything you do. Appropriately enough, I first discovered your channel when I randomly did a youtube search looking for people sharing their opinions on episodes of the original Twilight Zone and your videos were among the first that showed up. As for this video in particular, when I think of The Twilight Zone and commentary about beauty standards, my mind tends to drift more towards "Number 12 Looks Just Like You" from season 5. It's also about a young woman trapped in a conformist dystopia, but I love how the heroine in that episode is completely accepting of her individuality and how she looks (unlike Ms. Tyler in "Eye of the Beholder", who hated looking different from the rest), which just makes it all the more sad and horrifying in the end when she has to literally be forced to get surgery so that she may become "beautiful".

Mentioning “nonconforming beauty” or however you phrased it made me think of two things. One there was a book I read; I think in High School, that had an exact opposite take while trying to accomplish the same thing. I can’t remember who wrote it, but essentially the more homely a person looked the less amount of “handicaps” they’d have. The handicaps seemed to be described as just putting more clothes or things that would hide someone’s beauty. I believe it also involved things like helmets or big glasses. I believe part of the plot had a dancer or ballerina take off all her handicaps so she could perform better. Two, there was another episode of Twilight Zone that dealt with beauty where a woman didn’t want to conform, but she was given a drug or something to change her mind. What stuck out to me was the plastic surgeon in the episode. I too loved Twilight Zone, but it was one I missed growing up. I finally saw it soon after the Austin Powers movie came out. I remember thinking it was funny the plastic surgeon kept doing the same thing with his pinky that Dr Evil does but more as an unconscious habit instead of when he’s making a point.

I enjoyed your remake so much because it was so well done. I've seen this episode so many times--it was one of the first I saw when I was a kid. It's one I think about a lot too because if this is a world where the phrase "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" also exists then there's hope for it. There are people frustrated with the status quo and one way or another that leader's reign is going to end. Obviously it shouldn't be the way it is now and change won't be easy--there will also be some serious, maybe even violent pushback--but a better world is possible. Even in The Twilight Zone.

Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers! I love how, while you can easily guess the twist due to everyone's face being hidden in shadow, the reveal still is extremely affective. We tend to think that there is only one way to be conventionally attractive, yet beauty standards have changed so many times throughout the years. In one decade, the standard is pale skin and larger bodies. The next, it's bronze tans and being as thin as possible. We should all be kinder to our bodies and just focus on trying to be healthy and happy. There is enough to worry about without stressing about our nose being slightly too large or our legs not having a thigh gap.

Congrats on 10k subs, Avery! As of late, I'm like struggling on what to watch from my AUS TV shows & movies journey with stuff leaving, taken down, blocked from streaming because reasons or YT being annoying to deal with copyright & also games on the Switch that i haven't done much or finished. Most recent was watching the 2nd Chance movies, ABC ME being good with EP 1 of The Spooky Files & Planet Lulin on YT not restricted, EPs of Castaway on EPs for the most part, among other good & bad things happening with my playlists of mostly popular, obscure & lost media in Australia.

I never actually watched this episode, thinking I had seen every episode (besides almost all of the war episodes.) The Number 12 Looks Just Like You is the beauty standard episode of The Twilight Zone that I have enjoyed the most. This one reminds me of the running gag that The Munsters had saying that Marilyn was hideous.

I have a Twilight Zone episode that you'd like and should recreate. It's called "Evergreen" and it stars Amber Tamblyn and was the debut episode of the 2002 revival. Amber Tamblyn plays a rebellious gothic teen whose family move to a special neighborhood for rebellious teens. She soon realizes that teens who don't cooperate are turned into fertilizer.

Also wherever you live just has more love for movies then New Jersey. Every time I have ever wanted to make a movie I would run all over putting up flyers and asking people and NONE of them were ever interested. When I took classes on the subject they also never had the resources. There is no place where you can buy or rent costumes and props, no sets to rent, no one who teaches or knows how to build props or do make up (that make up was Prety far from pig. Gets the point across but lacks impact) I have never ONCE gotten any one who can teach or be in a movie or to help me with any of my ideas. I have creativity but its ONLY me no one else. No friends, no family, no clubs, no schools. People's idea of "do a skit" was either Michel Jackson or Monty Python. No one here has a love for Vuadville or Anime or culture. A whole bunch of white people moon walking and doing the dead parrot sketch. There's no other ethnic groups , no imagination no passion. On the up side, if you can recreate movies this good, you can film your own material and avoid copywrite strikes. Just recreate ever Disney film, Nicktoon, Cartoon Network show, Super Hero story and episode of MLP with your own crew and KZbin will NEVER be able to copy write strike your videos. You will OWN all YOUR footage. Just do like Jack Black in Be Kind Rewind and skip the movie clips.

Say any thing you want about Beauty Standard, Make up and Hygiene companies and Health companies will still make shore you feel bad about Beauty Standard. Kids will do the same . Every one teases and points stuff out and bullies until you conform. Birth defects, learning disability, Religion are the three areas that TV refuses to touch on. The three areas you people constantly feel uncomfortable discussing, so you avoid it. Even Sexuality and personal Identity are not fully covered in LGBT you always tack on "and other" You also ignore a large number of life styles, jobs, ways of learning, hobbies, occupations there is a lot that's just not in the media. I feel like the world only sees certain things it wants to see.
