@@_germanikus_ Sometimes it's hard to separate fact from fiction with the Gibb boys. They are not reliable reporters of their own lives. Barry also said he never forgave Robin for leaving the band. I imagine that like most of us their memories are tied to their current mood and circumstances. I don't think they any of them were really hard liars and they never were self- aggrandizing in their not-quite-in-line-with-reality recollections. I cast no stones though because the first memory I have (and it's very clear) did not happen.

In '88 the Bee Gees announced that Andy would join the band but he died before he could fulfill his role
@beeharbour
@beeharbour 3 жыл бұрын
No they didn't but it's commonly stated otherwise. Andy was never going to be in the Bee Gees if only because Robin and Maurice would have to have been idiots to have allowed it. The battles about lead vocals was a gigantic issue from day 1. Andy was going to sing some leads as well I would imagine. Why would the twins want mini-Barry to join when they were already unhappy with a number of things that went on in the band that would be made worse by Andy' presence and Barry's frequent statement that he liked Andy better than his other two brothers. I don't suppose there is any reason to buy this tale since I'm sure I have nothing much to offer but other 3rd parties who may not have been any more reliable than the ones you have access to. It makes perfect sense though. In any case even Barry said Andy needed to be clean before the matter would even consider joining the band. At least in theory he was still moving along with a new solo album. It is a bit odd to me that he was with Robin to pretend to write songs when you'd have expected he would more likely been with Barry. They had such success with Andy's first album that would seem logical. As well, Barry didn't really trust Robin to do a blessed thing right and he was probably correct in the sense that I'd guess Robin was not as stern a taskmaster as Barry would have been. Robin had not been clean long himself. It might not have been the best idea to send a very active addict to live with an ex-addict still very much in a precarious spot himself.

I agree with this. While I found I could sympathize deeply with Barry and find solace with his story - as I buried both my brothers at 44 and 63 and both my parents are gone - at least Barry has a lovely wife and five kids and grandkids and more money than he can ever spend in many lifetimes. He is very blessed. I am too as I have a wonderful husband, two grown boys and an awesome grandson. Most will have tragic lives, if they should live long enough. BTW, he still has a sister, right? So he has a sibling left. Has he made peace with her? At 74 he is probably also mourning his past fantastic career. What a life he must have lived!

There are lots of errors in this report starting with failing to mention that Robin learned arson from his big brother Barry and it was Barry's car theft charge that got the family the invitation to leave England and to do so promptly. I don't say that to criticize Barry at all; the family saw a lot of very rough times. While in Australia Barry skipped an entire year of school without Ma and Pa Gibb even noticing; I kind of admire him for that.

In an interview I saw Robin described how their dad was away much of the time photographing families that lived in remote areas of Australia. He also told about how their mom wasn’t feeling well at that time, having to spend a lot of time resting in bed. With financial struggles and living away from extended family, those years must have been really difficult. For their parents anyway - the kids had each other and seemed to thrive for the most part.

It is an interesting and compelling story but yes, everyone in life has some tragedy. I think the rags to riches thing is very enticing but mainly their humility and honesty about how things were is very enlightening. Robin is hard to read, can be very vulnerable and seemingly kind and also cutting and downright rude in some videos I have seen. Barry was the alpha and probably pushed his weight around a lot. Maurice seems to be the most fun of the three, does not say a lot but can be hilarious. So many years later people are just as fascinated now as back then. I wish they were all here.

@@theresabrown1272 it was intended as a put down to all the people who post videos saying that these peoples lives are tragic. I have a hard time believing that all rich celebrities have "tragic" lives. Maybe some do but not as many as these videos would make us believe. They have all the money in the world. Everybody goes through trials and tribulations in life but "tragic?" I don't think so. There are hundreds of videos on celebrities that use the word " tragic" which makes me think that maybe its a bad idea to be a rich celebrity because my life will end up tragic....i just don't believe it....maybe we're all better off without having money...i'm as poor as a snake but i wouldn't say my life was "tragic"...so if we are to believe what the videos tell us, i'm comforted to know that my life is better than these celebrities' lives and i wouldn't want to be them....its like "thank God i don't own the world" like they do....

Maurice's death had absolutely nothing to do with past drinking. As a matter of fact there was a settlement out of court against the hospital for malpractice.

@kathleendewey5347 True, Mo registered under an alias, so he was ignored, misdiagnosed, told he must wait for a specific doctor...well, his twisted intestine ruptured releasing massive amounts of bacteria into his bloodstream, causing the "heart attack" during emergency surgery, life-saving equipment was floors away & arrived way too late. A medical professional commented had Mo managed to survive, brain damage & loss of his digestive system were almost certain. So, at the bitter end, maybe Fate did show some mercy to poor Mo.

That’s a matter of opinion. I prefer Barry’s voice. Technically musically in some way Robin’s is better not sure, I’m not a music scholar. Barry sings falsetto and that’s not his real vocal range. He realized he could sing it and so he does. He started singing falsetto because he liked the R&B sound and many R&B groups in the 70’s had a falsetto in their group. I love R&B music from the 70’s

@@reneehicks4629 I agree with you. Preference is a matter of opinion rather than fact but Barry’s range was greater, from baritone through to falsetto and I find Robin’s extreme vibrato irritating. Interestingly it was Robin that pushed Barry to use his falsetto feeling that it increased record sales. Barry has since said he felt it was overused.

According to Robin, with whom he was living at the time, Andy was falling down drunk everyday. He had knocked out his front teeth in that manner. Both Barry and Maurice suffered some sense of guilt because their last conversations with Andy had turned somewhat harsh owing to his drunkenness on the phone.

Don't idealize these people. Andy had a daughter that he threw away. Robin did creepy stuff with the creep Dwina and that gross Asian housekeeper. Robin had a supposed "love child" that was far from "love." All BS. Robin's daughter by asian housekeeper looks like she has down syndrome. Robin's supposed "wife" Dwina is totally insane. It's all BS. The brothers had a second sister that mysteriously vanished to never be heard of again. The father Hugh and Andy mention this 2nd sister on the Mike Douglas show. Three out of four (3/4) of the brothers die prematurely. Maurice was an alcoholic and abusive.
