Thanks, Colt! Listened to this on a road trip yesterday and then did some practice when I arrived. Love these courses (and the ones on Udemy!) New career, here I come! 😁 👩‍💻

Learning how to use the terminal, how to use git, and how to use regular expressions were the three things I put off the longest when I decided to learn data science. They seemed too confusing to me. A few days ago, I finally tackled regular expressions. Yesterday I practiced with git, and now I'll take the info you shared in this video and expand on it so I can be comfortable with bash also (although it looks like zsh is is the new shell recommended by Apple, so I'll have to learn that pretty soon too. 😊) Your videos on all these three topics were such a good introduction to each topic. They made it easy to get the big picture and feel confident in starting to use regex, git, and bash respectively. Thank you. 😊

You can use `CTRL + l` to clear the screen, `CTRL + w` to delete words backwards, `ALT + d` to delete words forwards and `sudo !!` to re-run the last command with sudo permission

Nice basic terminal commands lesson. I think that uses CLI and GUI is balanced, according to the task but for me CLI is better in most cases cause it is straight forward at the meanings, GUI can be ambiguous sometimes. Thanks Colt!

Hi Colt, thank you for all the great work you do and free content, you were my first teacher, I started my journey with your web dev bootcamp on Udemy. I have come across a few of your notion notes and I must say I am a huge fan, is there a possibility that you could share a link to a few pages that you do not mind sharing?

I needed this!! I'm brand new to computers (for anything other than office use) and was completely overwhelmed with where to start. So well laid out, thorough explanations, can't wait for the follow up video. I am no longer panicked that I'll accidentally screw my computer over.

Good day Colt. While describing what a terminal is, you did not state the fact that there is a distinction between terminal, and terminal emulator. Most of the time you use the word terminal, you are referring to a terminal emulator. Thanks for the video. A terminal emulator is a program that allows you to interact with a shell within a graphical environment. Doing so by emulating a terminal. On the other hand, a terminal is an actual piece of hardware consisting of a video screen and a keyboard that does the same thing.

Nice video. I think MacOS Catalina uses ZSH instead of Bash as the default shell now.

Windows users can also use git bash, which comes along with git instead of the process of installing wsl and downloading ubuntu.....just a suggestion (if beginners find it difficult)
