But you have to think about it- How in the universe could they predict something like this happening? they just spend 2 months in these woods with no issue what-so-ever and Jacob did want a chance for everyone to get a bit closer with each other, not just him getting one more night with Emma. Jacob even breaks down at the end of his story if he is alone in the woods (Emma dies or Emma isn't infected or Chris died) Poor guy was genuinely a sweet dude... And likely is utterly traumatised by his actions and feels like he caused everyone's deaths and hates himself for not knowing something he couldn't have ever known.
