THE BELT OF VENUS - Painting the Moon at Dawn / Tonal - Colourist Impressionism

The Belt of Venus (also called Venus's Girdle, the antitwilight arch, or antitwilight) is an atmospheric phenomenon visible shortly before sunrise or after sunset, during civil twilight. It is a band of magenta - ranging through to ochres and greens - that surrounds the observer in a wondrous glow, extending roughly 20 - 30° above the horizon.
Today I'm painting on a large canvas (92x122cm or 36x48 inches) completed in the studio. The subject is from one of my little Plein Air studies, created on a recent and memorable painting trip. My choice of medium is oil paint, applied with palette knives.
