While in the US Navy, we sailed in the Bermuda Triangle many times. -no major problems. The ship also sailed slowly along the side of the Sargasso Sea. That was weird. It seemed like you were floating in a mystical sea in the air with huge islands of seaweed clouds.

Nova did a special on the triangle years ago. They were interviewing a fellow from the US coast guard who described a woman lost at sea trying to find Bermuda on her charts. When he asked which chart she was using she replied, "World Book Encyclopedia." Apparently that sort of stupidity is exceedingly common. That pretty much erased any notion of a haunted triangle from my mind. Cheers.

As someone who catalogues shipwrecks of all types, of all ages, the Bermuda triangle, at least within my still limited knowledge, is slightly less than average when it comes to disappearances. I would probably attribute the vast blue of the Pacific, around the capes of the Southern Ocean (Antarctic Ocean), and, by way of historical traffic, the North Atlantic shipping channels between Halifax and the UK as much higher. Like Simon mentioned, however, the waters of Southeast Asia are garnering more and more disappearances and overall maritime losses as time goes on, an example being the bulk carrier Nur Allya. Most of it man made and later explained. Just in February of this year there were three Taiwanese fishing vessels that disappeared, two of which were later found capsized and no survivors. Around New Year's Day of 2021, another fishing vessel, the Yong Yu Sing No.18 was missing and later found partially damaged, life rafts missing, a waterlogged engine room, and no trace of the ten crew. In a similar manner like the Mary Celeste, Yong Yu Sing No.18 was a drifting ghost ship.

The Bermuda Triangle stories were always fascinating but you know what is even more fascinating? Insurance rates on boats and vessels that travel within and across the triangle. Those rates do not change, and gives me thought are those insurance companies. They hate uncertainty and definitely charge a scale on risk types. By them not flinching on raising insurance coverage on ships traveling through or within the triangle really provides quantitative data backing that this mysterious triangle is nothing more than mysterious and intrigue. No additional risk outside of normal operating risk.

Run by an eccentric ex-RAF officer it was run on a shoestring and regularly flew without proper weather forecasts. The government closed it down in the end after several high profile disappearances, including one in the Andes.

Just finished this video about the "Bermuda Triangle ". I came to the same conclusion about forty years ago. It's no more dangerous or safe than other bodies of water on the planet. I was flying to Vieques in 2013 on a puddle hopper when we suddenly found ourselves in the southern section of the Triangle. As a kid, I always found it fascinating and couldn't wait to see it for myself. The weather was perfect, but out of nowhere, we encountered a mostly see-through water spout that clipped our wing and sent us spinning! I was absolutely terrified, but thankfully our pilot was able to pull us out of it and get everything back on track. After that, I never questioned how so many planes could go down in that mysterious area. Has anyone else had an experience like this?"

Anyway, I don't remember much of the documentary, but I don't think the incident was anything paranormal. I think it was mostly human error on Charles Taylor's part.

There's nothing mysterious about Flight 19! The navigator couldn't navigate and he was hungover. His commanding officer told him to perform the training exercise despite being extremely hungover as punishment for trying to weasel out of duty. The search and rescue craft sent after them was filled with leaky fuel tanks for extended range and the crew were all heavy smokers... the craft was nicknamed a "flying fireball" for a reason.

It is a well known fact that before any kind of mission all of those in such missions, training or otherwise, are not permitted liberty. Also, no commanding officer in his right mind would take a chance of their career going down the crapper just to punish someone. As for the smokers, no one smokes when there is just even a remote chance of a fuel leak. I know all of this because I served. Where did you get your info from, CNN?

As for the smoking thing I remember one time we had a major fuel leak in eng. room #1. Smoking lamp was out through out the ship. I smoked two pack a day at the time. But smoking was far from my mind at the time. I hope they rest in peace but if that is the way the plane blew up it was very foolish on their part. ( I also want to apologize to you for the CNN wise crack. A lot of people like to run down our military and I went on the defence right away. I am sorry for that.)

Thank you! I've been fascinated by the Bermuda Triangle for most of my life; however! I've never felt that it was a supernatural phenomena despite being a person who experiences what would be called "Paranormal" events frequently. I have simply understood that the area is actually as normal as any patch of any ocean can be, with natural phenomena, human error and hubris, and natural is unknown clamities affecting the missing vessels and planes. Then I discovered that there are plenty of areas with might higher loss rates, which also includes more mystery losses and events than the Bermuda Triangle and relegated the mythos of the area to my Mental Junk Drawer, where now and then some new telling of the tales can give me entertainment and a smile. Take off the tinfoil hats and accept that this myth is debunked andis entirely a work of fiction. There's better unexplained things, areas, etc to focus on to either prove something inexplicable is going on, or to debunk and encourage people to stop seeking fame via lies and hoaxes. Yes?

i love the bermuda triangle... but not for the ghost stories. ive always been fascinated by its geography and climatological components. the atmosphere and hydrosphere and their subsequent thermal imbalances interact heavily much more than people know. there a lot of convective thermal and physical energy systems that can be molded by the physical geography to create "silent but hostile" conditions. just as the chinook winds can exacerbate firest fire conditions due to air/pressure systems traversing over continental geography so too are our shorelines heavily impacted by winds. even on the shoreline in the right conditions rip currents seemingly "eat people" riping them from the shoreline. ive always been told "pyramid swells" are the worst. two colliding currents of eneven temperature causes "turbulence" even in water. theres this perfect condition of waves that create just awful rocky seas from all direction and theyre very hard to get out of.
