Fortunately, the first method is now considered animal cruelty in many countries. Don't throw living animals into boiling water. Neither is death instant, nor is it pain-free.
@ericwagner11614 жыл бұрын
#2 dispatch method is best, but there is room for improvement. Everyone has their own methods i guess, the only thing I would say is to return all the crab remains back to the water instead of throwing it in the garbage

Good video. One change in process if you split them do not boil them just steam them . Once splitting them and boiling you are loosing crab juice and subbing in junked up water. I put a bunch of rocks in and put 3" of water in . Quicker to heat up and better tasting. Loosing the water and steaming you can process WAY more crab. We have done 20+crab in a single pot this way. thx

Studies have shown that crab and lobster feel pain up to 4 minutes in boiling water before dying a painful death. Be responsible and freeze them first for an hour then spike them.

Killing crabs when you live in a small flat is so messy. That's why I always let the fisherman prepare them for me. But when I go to my family in law in the Caribbean, I always help my father in law. We basically just stab them between the eyes before any further preparation.

Hey no hate great video and I probably don’t know what i’m talking about but from other videos i’ve seen lol this literally seems like the two most painful ways to kill a crab XD boiled alive or impaled on a blade not even through completely so your not sure if it’s dead then rip it’s legs off and don’t fully cut through the heart and head lol .. why not break face off or stab face or stab heart ?

Could I also kill the crabs on the boat and keep the legs on ice for a while, or is it crucial to boil the meat directly after killing it?

Hmm! Why do you chill it? Does it help it somehow? I must investigate this.
@margotrosendorn63713 жыл бұрын
I think because the cold keeps it alive but stunned, and the temperature shock is more severe when boiled so the crab dies quicker and is mostly unconscious.

@loot62 жыл бұрын
If you want to kill them instantly you need WAY more boiling water than that...as soon as you put the crab in there it's body temperature is gonna take the temperature of the water right down so the more water you have the more humane and fast their death will be.

@AddictedFishing4 жыл бұрын
We had them on a bunch ice still alive. They sat a little longer than expected because we had a family emergency the night we filmed this. Cam’s son cut his finger and had to go to hospital. Which is why Clint finished this video. Absolutely very important to keep them alive! Thanks for watching.
