I whole hearted agree with what you say, and all the different Ai models and services you use. You put the time in to test them etc. (unlike a HUGE number of so called "Ai experts" on KZbin) However, my opinion differs with Chat GPT... you CAN ( and I do) get very good results, but ONLY... and this is the big point.. ONLY if you train it first in the style you want to write in a CUSTOM STYLE. (Even better if YOU to come up with the final prompts and beats and story arc yourself, do this in another chat.) At the moment, you will never get CHatGPT to write an awesome book if you just say "Write me an awesome fantasy book about aliens who have romantic encounters on a beach" You need to train ChatGPT as to the style you want. THIS IS KEY. The more you train, the better and WAY better it gets. And by training, you have to have multiple chats open. You need to feed the style you want to one chat, and see how it responds. Get another chat to analyse that, and give you the best way to get that style of writing, and THEN make a "style guide". Test, test, test the style guide, and refine it, and you will soon see, once you get this style guide perfected, you are good to go. Feed the style guide to a new chat with Chat GPT. Give the style guide a short name like "Fiction Guide or FG" and every so often keep reminding it to use the "FG style". Still it is not easy. For my third novel, I wrote all my prompts in chapter by chapter Word.docx to see how many words I typed. Well, I type more words than the book total. BUT.. .I got the story I wanted, and the way I wanted it. AND I could never have had such an "awesome" writing style that I wanted if I did not train it. I tested that, and I tried it. Chat GPT requires more "work" as you need to tell it which chapter you are on, and so on, and so on. But you get awesome results when you do it correctly. *Writing one chapter in one go.... at the moment.. not the way to go. You will need heavy editing. Wirting piece of a scene by piece of a scene gets way better results in my experience.

I spent some time just chatting with ChatGPT (free version) and together we came up with a pretty detailed Star Wars EU story. I figured it was something that had a lot of source material and the chat was all about it. I was impressed. It did seem, though, like the longer the chat got, the more details from earlier that it began to forget. I guess this is where the power of the codex comes in with Novel Crafter.

I use AI daily for writing and I recommend writing the story to the best of your ability, at the very least a detailed synopsis of each scene, and only then let it use that to flush out the scene. It's way too much work to go back and fix everything if you let it write the rough draft from just a few parameters. In this method, you can then go back and forth with it to refine areas. If you have it write, and then you go back and fix it, the reader is going to be able to tell that two different 'people' wrote the story.

So it's Claude then. What i was hoping to get here was an AI to help with my novel, crafting ideas, suggestions... not to write chapter by chapter. I'm a writer. I write stories, I don't need AI to wirte a book or a story. I used to use Bard, then Gemini, then that got pretty screwed up and worthless to me. So I've been going between ChatGPT and Claude which seem to understand my needs and are pretty helpful, when ProWritingAids fails me. But I was searching for another tool that may help, in a ollaborartive way, other that the two I've using. Something more directly geared toward collaborative writing than my two AI buddies I now use.

I retired 2 years ago after being a full-time writer for 45 years. In total, I wrote 232 novels, with the first 37 on a typewriter. I was completely tired of writing-it was becoming slower and slower. But now, I'm genuinely curious. Maybe NovelCrafter can give me a boost? However... I also have some unfinished novels (series) that I never managed to sell. Is NovelCrafter the right tool to polish this material, especially since I've been accused of writing in a somewhat "old-fashioned" style?

I’ve seen good stuff about AutoCrit. Not sure how actually good it is at it, considering that one way or the other it has to rely on current LLM technology (which, as Jason said, isn’t quite there yet to digest whole books that way, other than perhaps with insanely expensive API calls), but it certainly seems geared for that purpose, and I can see how it’d be good enough for at least prose analysis.

I just checked his video 'NovelCrafter vs Sudo' where I posted several times about the lackluster performance of Sudo vs NC for me - and I've used them both a lot. My posts are still up on that video. I've posted on other YT channels regarding the issues I have/had with Sudo, and I did notice that my posts were taken down. So now I know they are just a Sudo Sales Channel, so I unsubscribed from them. I am quickly finding which channels are working a revenue stream from the AI vendors only rather than giving real and honest reviews. I don't have time to deep dive to see if they are trustworthy enough to act on thier info. I have to say his last video mentioned above had me thinking he was not a source of honest info. But this video put him above the water line again. What he says here is the truth. If I see him deleting NC posts, I will be leave. And I always tell others which channel are just maketing hype and not real info on other channels as well.

depends on the model and setting's.. it helps to stop in NC discord and see what others are using the most and ask about some good settings for that model, and then fine tune them yourself to how you like it..

@@Mikew-sr1wc I guess learning a bit about how AI works is required. Prompting seems to also be something worth learning about. I know that tinkering and watching videos on Stable Diffusion helped my results a lot there. That’s a whole other ballgame though.
@Mikew-sr1wc
@Mikew-sr1wc 7 ай бұрын
@@ChrisVirgilio prompting is most definitely a whole nother ball game, but NC will be rolling a prompt hub out where we can share the one's we've created. although we already do in the NC discord server... the settings themselves affect your interactions with the AI, you can dial it down for more focused interactions when world building, character creation, etc. and then adjust them to get more creative when brainstorming and writing the prose and stuff... that is without playing with prompting.. also, if it starts looping or spewing garbage, then most likely, the temp needs to be dropped a notch or 3 and you also might be using a model that has a smaller context limit, unless it's Clause or GPT.. the lower the temp, the more coherent the model is.. some models need a temp of say, as an example, 0.3 - 0.7. and then some models like GPT can remain coherent at higher temps over 1.2 - 1.7.. just depends on the model you're playing with..

@@ChrisVirgilio oh yeah, there is no set standard as of yet.. especially since there are now so many open source models out there and more coming out to choose from.. but this is still in it's infancy, especially for use in writing stories.. although we do have some in the NC community that are working on finetuning models for writing. that takes time.. we are in a very small minority in using AI for this purpose.. and finetuning it to write especially in different character voices as well as mimicking your narrative voice is a challenge..
