Another alternate I would say is maybe Tien. He is in a way a goku without the sayian genes helping him out. He embodies goku at his core, always trying to better himself despite how many people are so far ahead of him. And unlike cell or early sayian saga Vegeta. He doesn’t let that stop him from improving or letting it get to his head that maybe he should just quit.

Got a similar conclusion on him recently while reading about the characters’ histories for a tier list. After disconnecting himself from his destructive past and desire to satisfy his martial artist pride, now he’s just contently improving himself as a life style. Some see it as out of character for him to decline the Tournament of Power before he knew what was at stake, but now I see it as character growth. While it might’ve given him a chance to battle other tough fighters, that’s not something he needs anymore. Now he has students he wants to help partake martial arts as a way of living.

Don't forget about Boo. His Innocent form is unaware of social norms, a savant when it comes to learning techniques, and smarter than he looks; just like Goku. Plus, he's a hedonist who wants to have fun. Boo (especially his Super form) is just Goku without his morals/lessons from the Turtle School.

I always saw Saiyan Saga Vegeta as if Goku never learnt his lesson that "there will always be someone stronger" Vegeta was calling himself the strongest in the universe despite not being the top dog even in the Freiza Force let alone the Universe. He had never been humbled (except maybe off screen by Frieza) until Namek, so his lesson of personal growth has to begin with unlearning what he had learnt in his life already, so he could then reform into a better person.

Goku and Jiren learned the same lesson but interpreted it in different ways. This lesson is your friends make you strong. Jiren interpreted this as your friends are all that make you strong.

What made Turles stand out to most evil Saiyans is that they usually accept the ideology that determined strength from birth, but Turles didn't and want to seek more strength to prove that he's not staying as a low-class. The different is that Goku disagrees with the entire lifestyle and evil belief of a Saiyan and want to live and fight for a better life, while Turles doesn't and believe that Saiyans should do whatever they want, not bound to status quo and order and even surpassed them.

He was introduced as a foil to him, and in case anyone's completely unaware, both: love training, love fighting, spare opponents, are the best disciple of their masters, trained since even before introduction (surprising rare), are prodigies who learn "simple" moves after seeing them used once, have taken a signiture technique from Roshi having seen it used once (Kamehameha/Mafuba), and can have an additional appendage (tail/arm). Tien also constantly trains, which also applies to Goku until the Tournament of Power, where Goku slacks on training for a year (I believe), and has multiple "Forbidden techniques" with damage the body to use, which can be compared to Goku's use of the Kaioken and maybe Ultra Instinct.

You know, recently I got myself into game series Devil May Cry, and now I realise how it has a similar themes with Dragon Ball Specifically how similar are the rivalry between Sparda twins and two Saiyans. Vergil and Vegita both relied on their natural strength, giving their everything to it. Later they attack their rival (Dante and Goku), who was spending more time with his friends and family. It leads to Dante and Goku going through their own adventure, and achieve even greater power to win. And creates a rivalry, that eventually makes both stronger and stronger, also making them closer to each other.
